Love your Radian videos. That was my first bike I bought when I was 15. 1987 model with 21,000 kms on it. I've got her up to 35,000 kms now and need to do a little work on it. Seems like the gears keep slipping when I pin it. Have it garaged up here in Calgary, Alberta while I ride my 2007 Honda 919. Love them nakeds! Thanks again for the videos and the inspiration to DIY.

Great bike. I have an 82 Yamaha XJ650 Maxim that I ride around on, Love the old inline 4's. Had a 78 XS650 Special that I bought new in 78 before I bought the Maxim. Brings back a lot of good memories. I wish I had the Yamaha RD350 I bought new back in 72. Now that was a blast to ride. Thanks again for the video.

Hey bro that radian is gorgeous and looks a heap more comfortable than my hurricane. At 6'1" the bike kills my back after half an hour riding. I'm also discovering I'm not a racer at all lol oh well I live and learn :)

Nice bike! Looks like a keeper... I just did the same thing to an 81 Suzuki GS750. It sat for 15 years and only has 4k miles. It had so much gunk that I spent two days removing from all over the inside of the carbs and gas tank. The slides where completely stuck; the butterflies so much so that the throttle was stiff like a rock. After all the cleanup work it started immediately. Thanks for the post Max. U gonna sell it or keep it? I know ur at least gonna ride it a couple of weeks.

Is it necessary to have the carbs synced after rebuilding? How often should the valves be adjusted? That is one pretty color scheme. Thanks for sharing!
@mrmaxstorey
@mrmaxstorey 2 жыл бұрын
Valves are usually done around every 10,000 miles, sometimes more or less, that information should be in the owners manual. A lot of folks do sync carbs after rebuilding, its not a bad idea and it will only make the bike run better, but if they were synced before I generally don't mess with them too much after cleaning them up

you know, I over looked something, Un'till two mins ago I never thought they could be related. Once I shut the enricher off. and ride wither just a warm up or long distance, at idle (stop light) it will act as if it chokes out and then will die, not immediately but after a couple mins, could these be related?

a couple quick questions, One before you sold it, did you change the jets to the 102s. I want to pod filter mine and looking for you advice.. oil is leaking on the bottom of the motor, If I am tight, It is leaking from a small half dollar size cover. with a wire coming out from it. I can only assume this is a sensor. could this cover be cracked or would it sooner be a bad gasket? I am asking cause I am very new to this stuff, and I am learning quit a bit from you. 86 radian thank you

I know this video is a couple years old but if you still have the bike or can remember could you tell me where the vac lines coming off carb #2 go? I know 1 of them goes to the petcock and the other up front somewhere (evap canister I think). I just need to know which goes to what. Thank you so much.

Did you remove the air filter box or was it already done? If you removed it, how without destroying it? Do you have to unbolt the engine to gain the clearance to get it out?

+Graham Mackenzie FYI to anyone curious, if you happen to have an original Radian petcock and can't find a rebuild kit, there are several bikes out there that have the same seals. The best one is the 1988-1998 Yamaha XV750 Virago; diaphragm, gas tank ring, 5-hole rubber ring and associated o-ring that sits above it and faceplate screws all are the exact same as an original Radian. Other similarities are the 82-83 XJ750, the 84-85 FJ600 and the FZ600. Goodluck on your petcock / rebuild kits.

I never had time to put in the 102's, it was running fairly decent on the 108s, if a bit rich, and that was good enough for my buyer. As far as this cover, it could very likely be your oil sensor, take a little video of it leaking and send it to me, or at least email me a picture.

BTW. You've probably already done this and I missed it, but think about during the video, putting up links of old vids which explain things more in depth. Like in this video when you talk about cleaning the carbs, put a link up to the vid you did on cleaning carbs, so people can jump to that if they're interested. I've seen it on other YT channels and found it helpful. But then again, that'll take more of your time sitting in front of a computer to do it. ...boo
