In the 4th episode of The Road To The US Open, Hunter Lombardo ( / hunterlombardofficial ) takes me through the startlingly difficult task of balancing while leaning. I thought after being an adult human I could pretty much stand properly, but there's a lot more to it when you're also trying to not get absolutely HOUSED at the US Open. Kamui Brand has been nice enough to sponsor me in The Pool US Open (April 13th-18th)
Thanks to Hunter Lombardo, Kamui Brand, and Society Billiards for the support.

I feel like my prediction from the first video is coming to fruition. Lambardo is getting funnier, but keeps to the point, and Rollo is getting more serious, while still cracking jokes. This combo is gold and grows on me more each video. Can’t wait for the US open guys. Best of luck.

Sometimes I comment because I know it helps your cause somehow. This road to the open series is the greatest. I’ve put so much time into this game. I find these subtle changes really helpful. I’m always the worst great player or the best average player. I’ve been stuck there for a few years.

Start on your line with your feet together. Then step out into your shot. This will keep you head/eyes on the line at all times. Whether you start shoulder width apart or wider, you have to bring your feet together (two movements) then move your right foot out, then move your left foot out... your head and eyes ares bouncing all over the place. Look at a golfer's setup. Whether its the putter or a driver - where 1 degree off impact point will send your ball 40 yards of target. Feet together (pick your spot), step out, step out,.. swing. The head never moves off line.

Rollie you never noticed the high ranked players are mostly shorter guys? Look how few are your height.. seriously there's a reason. Its a bit more difficult for us. All the 'little things' Hunters pointing out will add up to become the main reasons taller guys have a harder time with good form and balance at the table. I think the average height of guys was shorter when cue length and table height were standardized. If you ever get an opportunity to hit on a table about 4" higher and a longer cue 62" or 64" you will quickly feel what I wish the game were more like!! Its easier in every way for men over 6ft tall. ;)

I play more snooker than I play pool and all the videos on snooker and the people who coach me tell me to have a flatter stance that is more square to shot. I'm just wondering why the fundementals taught in snooker are so different to that in pool even though at the core, both games are about potting balls and getting into position. Loving the series and hoping you pull off a shock win in one of youre matches!!!

I'm not a snooker expert, but my best guess is that because the snooker table is much larger, a forward and back stance would have your knee bumping against the table before you could get forward enough to get on the cue ball if it's not close to the rail.
@bg24955
@bg24955 4 жыл бұрын
Bill Dean : snooker stance gradually evolved into modern day “box” style in the 70/80’s because players find it more accurate, but the drawback being lack of cue power. Snooker tables are taller than the 9 ball tables, so the upper body can be bent easier and parallel to the table. Snooker balls are small and lighter (4.9 onc). Parallel, relative to the table, cuing is super important in snooker when applying off center spin. Snooker balls are sensitive to cue action, plus the wood cloth( more grip)

I always wonder how a player gets their chin on the cue, which seems to me would give a better sighting line. Position of feet? Stand closer to ball? I always feel like I end up higher above the cue. I' 6'3 you're 6'5 and appear to have no trouble bringing your chin to the cue.

For Rollie's height i think he is now standing too close to the table. This causes crowding of the cueball and a choked up stroke . The distance he was prior to Hunter changes was correct . Just his left foot needed to be a little wider for proper balance.

I have found when you try to change someones complete stance and game,,they cant make a straight in ball. lol I think it is better to go over the mental part of it all,,more than the physical part. And you do not have time to train him. He needs to feel comfortable shooting without even thinking about it. Maybe you have time to teach a few new things,,but dont go to far.

yeah, if you get the wrong info or don't understand the right info. every "stance" video or instruction has been complete dogma or useless. this guy is a competing pro who seems to have worked really really hard on his fundamentals. literally gold if you can understand it. all the best players nowadays look like this except the filipinos. very still and calculated. don't listen to the random guy who's not competing in tournaments against the best. listen to this guy and other top pros giving advice. to be clear, i have not seen a video of someone giving advice this good. whatever you read on forums or videos from hobbyists is trash. no one is credible unless they compete against the best. not someone who's played against efren once.

I watched a yt video a few weeks ago about stances in snooker vs pool and they theorized it was due to power, you need more power for most strokes playing american pool due to slower cloth and bigger balls Dont know if its true or how accurate but it does sorta make sense Ive noticed also most fulltime snooker players aim with both eyes as pool players usually aim with their dominant eye. Idk maybe another factor?

These changes are going to be hard to assimilate into every day practice but if you stick at it your going to see big improvements. You’ll find yourself drifting into old habits. Keep notes 📝 because you’ll have to learn the same thing over and over. You need the eye of an expert to ensure your not letting what you’ve learned slip. Practice, practice, practice but have a coach check that what you are practicing is the right thing for you. Looking much improved already.
