A helpful tip! No character ever has pure black hair, since true black hair is really hard to animate/color, its always going to to be an off-black. Every character has a tint to their hair, its typically a dark blue or purple. It depends on what color you want to tie the whole thing together, like if you want a pink character with black hair, you would use a dark grayish pink. It also looks more realistic! :D

i wouldn’t say no character ever has pure black hair, but yes, most do use tinted black rather than pure black a nice example of a character with pure black hair would be like kim dokja from the webtoon Omniscient Reader (you can look it up) most panels would have his hair jet black with just the outline of his hair visible, making things easier since the webtoon artist would only need to slap black paint on his hair, saving more time for other parts

@@nyxarisa This is very true, but in Manga's and webtoons like that, it truly an artists preference! Usually a character with black hair in Manga's are pure jet black. It just depends on the artist! Im just saying how you will commonly see an off-black in artists work :D

i really just love how kooleen offers the best of art advice with just the explanation of "because it looks nice" except everything is actually advice extremely rooted in the fundamentals of light and design and is honestly the best art advice possibly given in that situation

@@snafuet several possible reasons: 1. too lazy to explain all the science because i would be too 2. you don't need to know the reason behind something to use it in your drawings, most self taught artists learn from copying things they like from other works without learning technical terms

Your style is what I wish my style could be but I don't even feel like I really have a style... I'm still trying to figure out mouths and noses. Like I'm obsessed with the idea of characters that have juicy colored lips because I'm a simp for vibrant yet dark lip colors, but when I try to draw lips they look so ew ;-; I also can't figure out how to make my style look good with lineart, never mind without, and just... ugh. It's very obvious when looking at submissions for her roasts that a lot of people basically just copy her art. Instead you should take references from many artists you like so that you can develop your own style 😄
