Yes the 5" does cool off too quickly for a almost stock 7.3 powers stroke a 5" starts becoming advantageous when you have stayed 3 injectors and are pushing 900 plus horsepower then you need the 5" to keep the EGT temperature down tomorrow I will post a video of my truck with the 4" exhaust Turbo back and the 6" tip

Some how I believe this is a repost from many years ago, but I could be wrong. I hope I am. You're better off with the 5" pipe, I know some people said 4" is good enough and it cools off to quick but No. I have a 2001 7.3 I bought new and I put a Banks 4" down pipe connected to a Hypermax 5" on it a year later. Even when it was stock that 5" pipe helped get rid of the heat. HEAT KILLS... And you will be very happy when you start putting more upgrades in it. Get a boost gage and pyrometer first. Without details Now I have injectors, afe intake, tunes, forged rods,. Ceramic coated mahle pistons, arp head studs, Hypermax intercooler,air intake, Large turbo, and complete upgraded Tran and torque converter. And more. Your 5" is just fine!! Enjoy the sound.

You took it apart the hard way, I used a craftsman reciprocating saw and made 3 or 4 cuts and it came right out. Now you made the up pipe look easy, I wrestled with mine for hours and I hated that clamp. Question thou what was that thing just past the down pipe?? Will you need that for SMOG in Cali??

You should cut the extra pipe inside the tip, the tip adds a deeper tone but not with the pipe going to the end of the tip.

I went with F550 HD Leaf Springs, a 3” Wulf Suspension Block lift to get a set of 315/60R20 (35x12.50) Toyo Open Country RTs on Fuel D574 Rims w/4.5” Gap, 225mm offset, for my 02’ F350 DRW. Leveled it right up when hooked up to my 5th wheel Toy Hauler, cuz it was saggin quite a bit. Keep up the Great Work, I’m learning a lot from You

I'm sorry but you are wrong. It's like a potato cannon. If it's to big it wont work right and if it's to small it wont work right. 4 inch is the best and most efficient size for anything under around the 700 hp mark.

Thx man, 5” sounds better than 4” but with 5” I noticed MPG decreased a little because I think there is not enough back pressure, 5” is actually to big for our trucks unless you start doing turbo upgrades, injectors etc. BUT I still wanted the 5” cuz sounds little better than 4” ... Im gonna upload 4” and 5” difference in 1-2 days to hear the difference

You shouldn’t see any reduction in fuel mileage. 7.3’s don’t require backpressure. That’s the hole point of ditching the crappy 3.5” stock exhaust that isn’t mandrel bent tubing. Any differences from a 5” exhaust is only noticeable after 500+hp. Anything under that, it’s just louder. More than likely your mileage has decreased because your ear and foot are now best friends. Drive it normal and you will likely notice a small gain in mpg.

U can do a mpg test. But with wut lil u have done it mite hurt u. The 4 inch would have been perfect and got better fuel economy, and please don't put a bigger tip on it. Leave it at 6inch

For optimal tip sound, you have to cut the 5" as close as you can to where the tip mounts. No need for a huge tip if the 5" goes through it. Lol.

If you are ever struggling with a stuck v-band clamp, an air chisel with a blunt tip will free it up.

In California they do a visual inspection on our diesel trucks. I remove my tuner and have the cat on mine. My s&b intake is carb compliant. You can either hollow out the cat or sandwich it over the new pipe so it looks like it has a cat.

The Mirrors on the truck obviously are the older super duty tow mirrors get the square ones of the 2008-2016 model years also the 1999-2016 model years have the same bolt patterns so you can take the front clip off a 2016 and bolt it on a 2001 and it will fit perfectly

Coby Sanderson everything from 1999-2016 is interchangeable with slight modifications such as different brackets. There is a guy who puts full 6.7 interiors into 7.3 trucks and he just has to change dashboard mounts and similar stuff.

None thank God lol but to charge a Prius when u plug them in still takes fusel fuel and alot of it. Our diesels take all the left over byproducts from fusel fuel and burns it. That's why diesel fuel is. Everything left over.
