Could you free up more space by swapping out the 2x4 and CA glue attaching a few 2mm magnets to the inside of the drawer and onto the divider so it’s held in place…? Just seems mad to store a lump of wood… unless it’s a pretend lump of wood that’s really a cash stash safe & then kudos my friend! 😜😂 Great builds mon frére! Bish bash bosh! 👍

When storing the pot and lid together you can turn the lid upside down on the pot and get a couple of more inches of space. I know it's minimal but just a suggestion for those like me who have huge crawfish pots.

Just a tip for pots and pan lids: Sometimes you can invert them on the pot/pan, and keep the right lid with the right pot. And in some cases, store smaller pots or pans on the lid.

You can also put two pans inside each other (one smaller than the other) than put the lid of the biggest pan upside down on top of it, and the lid of the smaller one normally on top of the upside down bigger lid. Most space efficient!

1st project: Looks great as long as your shelves are not too deep or you will have problems getting the items at the back out. We have a cupboard that is the same depth as our fridge and getting the items from the back is already hard enough. For shallow cupboards it looks great. 3rd project: Love this and have already done it for my cutlery draw. For my bottom layer I did four sections that go all the way from the front to the back of the drawer so no gap at the back to fill in. I need to do another set for my second drawer down and maybe a lift out one for the bigger 3rd drawer with all the rolls of tinfoil and cling wrap. 2nd project: I just can't decide what I think of this. Every time you moved it I was worried about the items sliding off the shelves. Probably a me issue. I do like how you rounded the corners, such a small detail can make such a big difference to the end appearance.

I don’t normally comment on videos, but you have really great content. Easy to understand and follow for the layperson/DIYer and good with some humor incorporated in. I ended up here after looking for KED string lights, then subscribed and guess I’ll be binge-watching. I just bought my first power tools this year (Ryobi drill, skill saw, sander, brad nailer) as I made a vehicle buildout to have organized camping drawers. I’m in a downtown condo, so can only do this on the balcony. But this video has now given me more great ideas for kitchen organization in a small space. Love being organized, and these tools have opened up new opportunities to have things that are customize d and fit perfectly, without spending a fortune.

Nice idea. One other- if considered when purchasing cabinets, is to increase the depth of wall cabinets to 15" instead of 12". It will only add about 15% of the cost of the original cabinet, but will give you 25% more storage space...and you will hardly notice it is deeper, except that you can store more bowls and cups, or extra large plates.

This probably is a "duh" for you folks who sound like you know what you're doing, but please make sure your upper cabinets are very sturdily built. Several years ago, I got a "deal" on cabinets and had friends install them. Several months later, I noticed that the cabinet backs were not firmly against the wall and had to holler for help. (I'm a widow living in a "cousin-built" house that passed inspection 25 years ago LOL.) The cabinet was reinforced and re-hung and all is well so far. But I no longer fill it to capacity and have gotten rid of a LOT of glasses, coffee cups, and heavy casserole dishes, etc. Just *be sure* your cabinetry can support the load you're expecting it to handle. None of us want to have our cabinets crashing down and wreaking havoc on our counter-tops...

They do basic pine shelving with adjustable shelves suitable for garages usually they have a metal cross at the back for support. These are great for kitchens remove lower shelves leave one at the bottom and you can put bins on it middle shelf is ideal for a coffee machine or air fryer upper shelves are ideal for tinned food top shelf for large items like a wicker stoarage basket etc. saves a ton of counter and cupboard space. A decent plate rack wall mounted over the sink can be modified to drain into the sink again frees up cupboard space. Magnetic spice rack shelves are great for the side of fridges and ikea do a solid small wheeled 3 shelf trolley ideal for small gaps each shelf holds 3 2L bottles of soft drink.

Well, it needs a lot of tools. In some shops (in Poland we have Castorama) you can buy planks and pay a little extra to cut them in exact dimension you need - great if you don't have saw etc. With big pot: you can try to put your lid upsine down - most of them should feet. Then you have handle inside the pot and flat space to put something on top (for example smaller pot) Putting piece of wood at the back of drawer is waste of space, better would be adding extra divider and storing there something you rarely use (in mine drawer it is nutcracker)

I know the door holds up fine from the pot lids, but if there ever is an issue or if you fear there being an issue, attach the door to the new pull out drawer. The attachment point will be at the bottom where it can easily take the weight so no risk of putting stress on the hinges leading to possible breakage.

@@ChrisW228 In case you haven't yet, it's allowing for the drawers to open all the way, not leaving the back of the drawer in the cabinet. Most drawers without metal glides do this as a way to keep the drawers in not get fully pulled out and on the floor. In other words, a bit of the drawer is left in the cabinet and that space is often hard to get to.

If you have a project for a blind corner base cabinet with a 🤬 13” opening I will love you forever 🥰 Your climbing-inside-the-cabinet bit is me anytime I need to retrieve those rarely used items that I hide back there and I haven’t found any fixed that will work with such a small opening.

You're the first person to see it my way about the inefficient wasted space in cupboards!! This was a relief, and a good design too :o

Thanks for your videos I really enjoy watching the entertainment as well lol. I have a question for you if possible. My Carpenter built the cabinets on sight using poplar wood. It seems that a lot of the inside areas are unfinished, so I get splinters every now and then. Can I Use that veneer on the inside and how easy do you think it would be for me to do it without asking my husband to LOL

The bottom cabinet pull out solution is genius. I considered building a top drawer, but determined it would interfere with my ability to reach things in the very back of the bottom platform. With one tiered drawer that pulls out the entire cabinet contents I would be able to see and reach everything. And I don't need a full length drawer for the top.

Thanks for the ideas. I just wonder why you didn't fix the cupboard front onto the drawer so you don't have to (a) open the cupboard, then (b) pull out the drawer? Why do two things - with a risk of clashing the two together - when you only need do one? We have very few cupboards in our kitchen: pretty much drawers only. So much easier. And if - instead of putting pot lids inverted in the pots as many of your audience suggest - you want to store the lids separately, you could slot them on the inside face of the drawer.

Wouldn't it make it harder to get the items out if the cupboard front was fixed to the drawer? I would think it would be easier to access items in a 'deep' drawer with shelves like this, from the front and a side, rather than two sides and no front access. No front access means you have to slide the pot out and upwards, instead of out and frontwards. But to each their own i guess!

That junk drawer stuff can be stored vertically for quick and easy one handed access. I used a hanging shoe holder, but plan to build an industrial style vertical holder soon, just because it looks better than a shoe holder.

For your scrap wood what do you do to keep bugs out of the wood pile? I always have spiders everywhere near the wood piles and under my bench.

As a retired cabinetmaker I found this fascinating. Why? The new cool tools that have come around since I have been involved with it. I will say this, even if my vision won't let me do the fine work I used to do, I'd kill to have an awesome shop like you have. Just kidding about the killing part. LOL ;-)

Always up for some edge banding 😊, but I suggest putting the extra shelves lower. Put the lowest shelf 5-8” up - it’s eye level for many, and means short folks can use 2 shelves without ladders or pulldowns. Use the low shelf for short things like mugs, snacks, your bins, or plates. Allow more height for the next shelf up (put the stacked spice rack there - and add a lazy susan for oils & sauces). Then the top shelves that the short folks can’t reach are for low frequency items (like that bundt pan)

Video idea for you,. Make a spice rack where Square spice jars lay sideways and are stacked on top of each other with labels on the lids as well as on the side. This is a super easy project and saves a ton of space, Obviously, shelves will have to be made in between each layer.
