@@bbrown5887 that was insightful- that criminals are lazy or they wouldn’t be criminals. They’re also often sociopaths. I used to try to help poor people out by giving them odd jobs. But after the second one called me up asking for more money for doing nothing and I said no, and took joy in telling me what he had stolen from me, or physically attacked me - now I rather see them starve to death than be additional carbon footprints on our planet. The government needs to cut it out with welfare and paying welfare moms more money they more babies they pop out.

Thank you for this. As far as preventing the door from being lifted out of the track, I measured the gap at the top edge of the door (~.5") and bought a wooden dowel of that diameter at the hardware store for $2.50 for 4'. Slide the dowel into the gap between the top of the door and the track. Of course I also have a dowel in the bottom track. The reason I mention the dowel, which does the same as the screw solution you mention, is that some people may not have the tools to do the screw method, or maybe don't want to put a hole in the track.

More genius thinking at work! I will try the dowel first. My only concern is getting the dowel out. I might screw in a steel washers to the ends of the dowel. I have very strong magnets that I can use to fish out the dowel if needed. The frames are aluminum so the magnets will not stick to them, but then the magnates may not be needed for my setup.
@AmandaTexas4 ай бұрын
@@winstonsmiths2449 I'm glad you like my solution. As far as getting the dowel out, you can just open the sliding door half way and poke the dowel out either side with a similar dowel. The dowel shouldn't fit too tight, it just kind of sits on the top of the sliding part of the door, taking up enough space to prevent the door from being lifted enough to remove it.

One of the easiest and most effective is a dowel/pin through the frame of the sliding and into the fixed door. Do it at the top (where there's no glass) in the middle of the opening where the two doors overlap. I made nice ones for my mom with an aluminum rod from Home Depot and a nice wooden door pull (also from HD). Drill a hole all through the inside door and the inside side of the outside door (NOT ALL THE WAY TO THE OUTSIDE). Put the pin through and there's no way to slide the door or pick it up with a crowbar or suction pads because now the two doors are locked together. Don't do the screws in the top frame as you'll pierce the water barrier and possibly allow water in around the door. Don't do that.

Now let's remind everyone that there are very affordable alarm companies out there that will actually give you an alarm at no cost provided you have it monitored. Most companies now charge about $29.99 per month in addition to implementing your methods! This is a great way to protect your home. I will also add that when installing an alarm system ask the sales representative about installing an external siren ( outside of home ) and a strobe light . The purpose of these 2 additional pieces of equipment will ensure that everyone down the block will know that someone is breaking in or trying to break in your home. The strobe light will give anyone a visual whose home is being compromised. For example an intruder, medical emergency and so on

wood on the bottom can be easily knocked out of the track using a coat hanger, I recommend a Billyjack it requires 2 actions at the same time, easily mounts in the middle of the door and swings up and locks into place so you can open the door, this is a good deterrent to visually see, so unless you can squeeze and lift the mechanism to unlock the Billyjack from the outside this works best. This prevents the "lifting" break in technique. While an extra security measure or two is wise, it's also important to remember that it is just a glass door. If someone is hellbent on getting in, they will just break the glass...

5:48 also leave enough for expansion and contraction of the materials (roof, doors, windows etc) and your house in general. Having those screws too close can cause the sliding door frame to put pressure on the door when it gets full sun and heats up. Potentially binding the door or at worse put strain to the glass... maybe add a rubber grommet to the head of the screw or something like RV weather stripping so it's not metal on metal contact.

Some good content here! Of everything you mentioned, I want to call out the security film, and add a +1. Security film is a simple installation (much easier to do than car window tint), but the installation is not complete without sealing the film to the door with structural caulk. There are several varieties of film available including clear. Secondly, real, functional cameras are a good addition. While the statistics around burglary recoveries are dismal, cameras serve many other purposes such as being a parental aid (you're lying if you say you have eyes on your kids 100% of the time), as well as reducing homeowner insurance rates. Better access controls -- no finicky latch locks like posted -- can also be had for a small premium. Obviously everyone's situation is different and commercial controls aren't always in the budget or required, but high quality locks, unbreakable glass, and reinforced or steel doorframes will yield a much more secure home than generic Amazon devices. Keep dropping these videos! I'm really enjoying seeing more and more of your stuff.

I LOVE the idea of the screws up top so the door panel cannot be lifted out! I think we WILL be doing that. Thank you again. Judi

I use those metal door jambs (you used it for the slider track as an alternative to a wood dowel) on my front and rear doors. Many years ago, someone attempted to kick my door in but the door jamb didn't budge. I hope the person trying to break in received shin splints at the minimum for their efforts.

Ha. My ex husband did that, and screwed up his knee. But, he went to the Military Emergency Room, & claimed it a accident. Nows he trying to get a military disability for his self inflicted Injury. ***

Any preventative measures must be easily undone when there is a fire in your home. Also if is more than 4 feet off the ground it is a fire hazard because most likely you will be crawling on the ground with all the smoke around you during a fire.

@4:57 the proper way to eliminate the sliding door gap is to actually adjust the roller. There's an adjustment screw that controls how far the roller comes out from the frame, and there's a screw like that on both top and bottom of most sliding doors! The idea is to adjust the rollers in such a way that the door moves smoothly, but snugly, and doesn't have enough play to be forced outside of the track without getting to the adjustment screw on the side of the door frame. Great tips otherwise, thanks for producing this!

I've installed windows sliding doors and glass over 45yrs. If your door is adjusted properly. (Raise the bottom rollers) you won't have this issue. No home is secure when it has windows.. glass..

In Southern California, a significant number of residential burglaries take place through the glass patio sliders, which are often broken to gain easy access to homes. A prevalent issue is that many homeowners leave their backyard gates unlocked for convenience, especially to accommodate gardeners. This practice, while seemingly harmless, can create vulnerabilities and serve as an easy entry point for thieves and burglars.

I really like the idea of putting screws in the top track of the sliding door. I'm definitely going to add that to my security as soon as I get a chance. I also like the additional locking mechanisms you installed. I'm going to do that as well.

I have two metal harden metal arms with security locks between the two sliding doors. Door's cannot be lifted or slid forward or back. Another excellent security feature is an monitored alarm sticker along with my personal laminated small sign right below by the alarm sticker which reads: CAUTION: HOME OWNER IS ARMED AND WILL NOT HESITATE TO OPEN FIRE WITH AUTOMATIC WEAPON. YOU MAY DIE ENTERING THESE PREMISES. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED GOVERN YOURSELF ACCORDINGLY!

You come off like a lunatic! If I was invited to a function @ someone's home that had that kind of signage out front I would turn back around and leave. Clearly you don't have a HOA or you live in Texas.

Foolish sign as you give your weapons listing and tactics away. By informing the perps as such the perps may consider throwing hand grenades prior to entering every room. The noise alone should stop you.

The downside of the 1 way window film is that at night when it’s dark sand your lights are on inside anyone outside can see in and you can’t see out.

If they want to get in they just break the glass with a brick. I have security cameras along with a wifi alarm . These two things tell people up to no good to find an easier house.

Great video. My new doors and windows came with the bolt type addition. Nothing moves when its engaged. I added a solenoid bolt to my front door thats thick. Less costly than upgrading my frame deadbolt. Disengaged inside, remotely outside or if power fails. Few burglars enter at the front door.
