It's a real shame how this game was fucked over. While RDR2 is, to me, a masterpiece RDO holds a very special place in my heart. My boyfriend and I both started playing RDO back when the quarantine started and we sunk hours on end into it. It was amazing and we got up to some nonsense. Didn't really have much experience with griefers really and once we fully leveled up all of our roles and sold every legendary to get the clothes we'd invite low levels to help them. When we found legendary animals in the wild we'd search the lobby for low level players and give it to them. We'd make sure to always make those high quality stews in case people passing by wanted some (unsure if they could though). Only made deliveries with low levels to help out as well. Overall it was an amazing experience and to see it so abandoned is just rotten. We've moved on to other games but once in a while I get back on to relax and find collectibles and give away legendaries.

You forgot to mention a crucial part of the gold economy that kept players around and that's the daily challenges and challenge streaks. You only needed to do one challenge to keep the streak alive and there was always at least one simple task and if you reached the 28 day+ cap you would get 0.5 gold per challenge. The reason rockstar abandoned rdo was because the storefront was not lucrative enough because even a casual player could get to 50 gold in a reasonable amount of time and with little effort.
@pugachevskobra5636 Жыл бұрын
The dumbest thing they did was kill the daily challenges streak progression, especially if they were gonna leave the economy so fucked up. And what’s the point of making a ton of money when there isn’t anything to spend your rewards on? Clothing, a few horse and some guns. That’s it. Player houses, boats, apartments, farms, a professional bounty hunter outfit, a gang of outlaws, literally any of this stuff would’ve been acceptable and yet we got clothing, guns and horses. It’s basically pointless to grind hard like the game clearly wants you to do.
@ayvahnladdie Жыл бұрын
@@pugachevskobra5636 And then they nerfed it by half to make it harder to earn gold.
@mvprime8 Жыл бұрын
Yep, thanks to the challenge streaks I was able to get all the gold I needed for all the roles and outlaw passes without needing to buy gold with real money. It just took a little patience and logging in daily. So for the early years of RDO, I wouldn't say it's entirely fair to say they forced you to grind or use money to unlock the content, it was relatively easy to get gold by playing. But I guess they started to regret that, so they nerfed the gold you got from challenges and killed the streaks. Immediately also killing my motivation to log in daily. And I suspect the same was true for many others. So it wasn't enough for them we bought the game and played it, they wanted us to keep paying more for it.

It was some of the most fun I’ve had in my life to be honest. We are all still friends. I look back at that time with such great memories. Since we all had such a good time playing and we played so much that by the time all the outlaw passes and roles we had enough gold to buy the roles/passes and still had 100s of gold bars left after. So I never had to buy with real money so that was pretty sweet. Now we’ve all moved in from RDO we keep in contact on Facebook and stuff. In my heart I still have the smallest amount of hope they will revive this game but I know they won’t. 😢

The appeal to RDO for me was mostly the roleplaying ability. I love roleplaying, and being able to do that in western setting was like a dream come true to someone who grew up on a lot of "Old West" media. They just didn't do anything worthwhile to the game, I was excited for the trader role because then I could rp as a fur trader/mountain man but that was pretty much it. I still like getting on and just pretending to be a Montana cowboy or mountain man from time to time. It's just a damn shame what they put to waste, because I know there a big audience for western aesthetic. Instead they threw away the Red Dead part, and went "what if GTA but in 1800s."

Many took this and believed that Red Dead Online would get more content in the future, however the CEO of Take-Two reiterated that it would continue to have online support for bugs fixes and improvements, etc. The CEO said it himself that it is up to Rockstar to provide and release new updates for Red Dead Online. Did you catch that? This isn’t Take-Twos doing, this is ROCKSTAR simply choosing not to develop new updates for their own game. There's only so much of being forced to do missions with other people that never show up while you're waiting, that I can take. The graphics didn't even seem to be as decent Online. I'll stick with RDR2 single player. Much better.

I will always remember that the first games multiplayer gave me one of my best online gaming memories. Back then I honestly had no clue what to even do in it except ride around most the time but one day on one of those rides I got sniped off my horse by a trio of desperados outside Blackwater. Wanting revenge and blitzed out on energy drinks I went back and managed to kill 2 and began riding away hurt as hell. Thought it would end at that since "You killed me I kill you back" but no. Mini map told me they were chasing me for their own revenge. I had no clue what to do to try and avoid getting hunted until I gave up and hopped off the game, had that gut feeling they might be in a griefing mood since they had the numbers. I ended up running north to where Dutch's camp was on the map thinking I could hold out there in a choke point, imagine my surprise seeing the machine gun was there and that you could use it. They ran into the kill zone and I mowed them down sending them back down the mountain to respawn. I felt pretty safe then...till I saw a few other players shift to their posses color they were gathering numbers of ether friends or randoms to push into the camp. Not wanting to get crazy outgunned I started blindly sending invites to anyone else on the server and people joined me and soon almost the whole server was in 1 of 2 teams converging on Dutch's camp. It turned from petty gaming revenge to an unoffical king of the hill game. One team would control the machine gun and the heart of the camp until the other sniped the gunner and could push in then repeat. Soon some mad men got respawned at the other side of the mountain but still went up the back way to sneak in dynamite tosses to help dethrone the gunner. No one had mics far as I remember just a silent understanding we are fighting for this old outlaws camp and we ain't about to let the other team keep it. went for like an hour before the teams began leaking players, and in the end the camp was a ghost town again but for that bit, it was fucking magical

One of the best times in red dead online was when the servers messed up and you we’re always by yourself in public lobbies which activated all the world random activities to show up on the map, increased animal spawns, increased collectible spawns. A glitch somehow fixed the online mode and everyone wanted it to stay like that

The thing that's sad is they could change it, but they'd rather sacrifice the game than the microtransaction heavy style they want to go with. If they admit they were wrong and actually change the game, suddenly they are beholden to the player base and they don't want that.... at least until their money well dries up because they forget what made them popular to begin with.

Every once in a while, I'll get the itch to play online....but then when i boot it up and load into camp, im just meet with this unshakable feeling of dread. It's just sad. I go in, pet my dog that i named after my irl dog that passed a year into the games release, then leave. None of my friends play anymore and i dont blame them. I wouldnt try to convince them either.

I do still play about a half hour every morning before work, to have a little escapism and see pretty landscapes before my real miserable daily grind. If I see other players, I wave, but I’m ready to run a mile away to get away from someone who will shoot me for no particular reason and trash my brief bit of morning fun. Then I let the game sit in the background being a pretty screensaver for 13 minutes while morning meetings start. But I have to admit, even though I have my little rituals and occasionally find something entertaining fun, I’m mostly riding around thinking of the ways that the game could be improved, doors they could open, wishing I could park my camp in an old cabin, or sleep in a hotel, et cetera et cetera.

I've had and played Red Dead Redemption 2 since it was launched on pc, and i'm not joking when I say that I have never even opened the online part of the game. It was made painfully obvious within hours of RDO launching that it was going to be complete trash, and then the MACRO transactions came, and it suddenly made sense, why everything in the game was extremely expensive. Rockstar never planned on people actually grinding the money, they had fully believed that everyone would buy the items with real money. But when people didn't do that, they abandoned the game apart from the absolute minimum of updates.

They should make towns safe zones except for every in-game day from noon to 1 pm. Slow the time down to where that span lasts for 10 minutes, this would be perfect for duels and/or full-on town-wide gunfights

As long as you stick to staying in defensive mode and the first role you buy is the bounty hunter(only role that gives you gold per mission, look up the meta to maximize profits if you are so inclined) then yeah, just temper your expectations a LOT from the masterpiece that is storymode

I’ve played RD Online almost every day since just after Beta. It got me through the strict Melbourne Covid lockdowns with my sanity in check, and I still play it most days. While I agree that it has been clearly neglected by Rockstar for some time, my experience with the game seems to differ to yours, especially with regards to grinding money and griefers. While I generally spend most of my time in the Takeover series, during open world, I have almost never encountered griefers. And certainly not to a point of it ruining my gaming experience. I’ve also never made a micro transaction, and enjoyed working through the set roles to earn money... which, at this point I have way too much of 😂

There are two types of whistles you can do in the game to call your horse 1: short whistle will call your horse directly to your position and it’ll stay there 2: long whistle will call your horse to come near by and follow you from a distance 3: spamming whistles will cause horse confusion and player frustration

After ignoring the #SaveRedDeadOnline social media campaign and questions during your live streams regarding RDO, you finally address the topic, but unfortunately in a dismissive review. You admit you stopped playing before the Moonshiners and Naturalist DLCs were released; therefore, the examination or exploration of the actual content and roles is scant and superficial. Finally, insider Tez2 received confirmation from a Rockstar source, that the Rockstar Editor will eventually be coming to RDO (hats off to Silentcore for covering this development).

I tried RDO for the first time a few weeks ago, because I was missing RDR2 and didn't want to just play the story mode again. After the first few story missions, I tried to ride into Blackwater to start another mission, was promptly killed multiple times by someone I could barely see, and that's where my RDO journey will be forever done.

If you choose the option to parley the can't do Nything to you, it helped me early on in rdo as I learned the ropes of online and how it differs from story I gameplay. And in the online section of the options menu you can turn on defensive mode which removes free aim and reduces damage players deal to you greatly and prevents players from marking you in dead eye or using a lasso on you

I remember it used to be not too difficult to gain gold by just logging on 1 time a day for daily challenges.
