I think the “All the stories you heard are true” line is funnier if you imagine the context of Landon having left for Mexico long before any of these dime novels sensationalising his life were written and he thinks the image John has of him is a legendary but grounded and accurate one, and he has no idea he’s saying that the deliberately over the top FanFiction is the reputation he has back in the states is what’s real. 😂
@Archbell_End8 ай бұрын
I always got the impression that the dime novels were produced around the same time as the exploits they were sensationalising, most of them talk about people in the present tense that we know are long dead by 1899. But even if they were written years after the fact Ricketts would most definitely of been aware of them, the dime novel that features Ricketts can be found by Arthur in 1899 and Ricketts didn't leave for Mexico until 1902.
@CryptidRenfri7 ай бұрын
Dime novels were super popular since at least the 1850's that I'm aware of anyway. So many of them were written contemporary to the events they portray, although in an extremely dramatised and not-so-accurate way.

@@Archbell_EndRicketts is based on Wild Bill Hickok they’re both lawmen that killed any outlaw that gets in their way, they both have run ins with other legendary gunslingers and survive or befriend them, they both have their gunslinging lawmen careers go downhill after a gunfight at night implying ricketts was moon blind just like bill hickock when his career was also going downhill due to being moon blind they can’t see well in the dark. And just like the strongest heroes and nations the world wants to see them fall and in turn create fake rumors and doubt about their greatness I’m sure you have someone great in your family who is a man or woman of honor who in their prime days most definitely had opponents of any sort in situations where their haters would try and tarnish their name with bs rumors, and if you don’t have someone great in your family who’s dealt with haters trying to tarnish their name take it from me and others who have seen this first hand or do have great 1 in a billion type of human in their family, trust me there is always haters who aren’t worth shit creating false rumors and lead people to believe a bs train of thought to tarnish Golden Legendary Reputation. Rickets was a man of honor a man that respected defended and fought for the foundations that could create a peaceful civilization in his time the exaggeration of his exploits might as well be the way things turned out in reality, the reason people see it as exaggeration is because they can’t comprehend and will doubt that he really was that good and cliche in being the the fastest in the west, the fact he doesn’t claim to be the fastest even with his reputation means he is being humble about it and tells John his stories were true cause I bet there has been many doubters and Landon now owns the worlds interpretation of himself knowing and acknowledging he is legendary but stays humble and logical about it. Very similar to Abeloth arc Luke, in starwars comics he knows he’s great possibly the greatest and owns it he doesn’t deny it but also doesn’t confirm it, his reputation speaks for itself at that point and stays humble about it he’s not ridiculously prideful about it but him acknowledging he’s at the level the greatest ever reach he uses it to his advantage doesn’t let ego control him uses that to his advantage while performing at the greatest anyone legendary could perform/fight at and in turn stays undefeated till death of natural causes. Sure there is always going to be the fake legends who value lies deception and are usually the ones that create the bs rumors of those greater than themselves, a few fake legends include : Jim Calloway, palpatine, Freiza from dragon ball z, sukuna from jujutsu kaisen, the borg from Star Trek, one thing the fakes got in common they dont respect honor and bite more than they can chew, sure they might be formidable at the elite level but letting their ego control them makes them become pretentious and subpar against those of equal skill who do respect honesty and honor in capabilities. There is much truth and influence in pop culture and it becomes more true the more you also become legendary yourself and if raised by local legendary people many things become as clear as day, the more someone’s life is ordinary and have never been close to extreme greatness the more they’ll cast doubt and rumors on those who have been around extraordinary situations/people/potential.

@@aristotle1960 Ricketts is based on an amalgamation of various people, his face looks to be partly based on Wild Bill but Ricketts never claims to have been a lawman and he's never employed as one in Chuparosa and acts more so as an unofficial peacekeeper or vigilante. Landon Ricketts serves as both an amalgamation of various historic western figures and at the same time a sort of metaphor for the actor who portrayed the character. Ross Hagen was a working actor, he had bit roles or supporting roles in western movies, TV shows and dramas. In a way he never really got his big break until he got older but his big role as Landon Ricketts is a sort of chapter end and metaphor for the passing away of the old west as fact and into legend and then mythos of and for the proud American identity, it also serves as a sort of book end for a chunk of silver age hollywood that no longer exists today sadly. If anyones curious, Landon is an amalgamation of "wild" Bill Hickok, Wyatt Earp and Buffalo Bill Cody.

Here come all the comments about how ricketts should be the protagonist of rdr3. You know ignoring the redemption part, the fact he’s clearly always been on the lawful side of gunslingers, and ruining all the mystery surrounding the character. Not including the fact the stories are about the death of the west, not the height of it.
@antifurryfoundation558 ай бұрын
I agree, however rdr2 was the death of the west, rdr1 was after its death and how people like John are changing around that. So the next game (if it is another prequel and not jack’s story) would have to take place in the Wild West’s prime.
@purpseatpeeps86418 ай бұрын
So that’s why ‘Redemption’ ought to be done for, make either a Red Dead Revolver 2 or some other R word, and with it, bring in a new time period, themes and stories! I think the point about Landon being in the Blackwater Massacre is de facto retconned/decanonised. 2 gives us absolutely zero reason to think anyone outside the immediate VDL gang and the Pinkertons were involved, save civilians like Heidi McCourt, and if an infamous gunslinger like Ricketts was there, someone would have brought it up once in the course of the game. It’s a consequence of changing the Blackwater Massacre into what it became for 2’s story, but it is nevertheless the case that it’s pretty much impossible to think Ricketts was somehow involved and the other survivors/perpetrators of the massacre never mentioned “Hey Arthor, did you know the most famous gunslinger of our time helped us get off the ferry in Blackwater.”

Would be cool if RDR3 is about Landon or Harlow’s kid/grandkid And either Jack is a second protagonist or shows up as a supporting character in missions where you and the other protagonist are going around piecing together the history they didn’t know about Get updated on what Landon was doing all this time, see his perspective of Blackwater and have a whole narrative that he’s on and we learn about Have flashbacks to when Dutch and Hosea met and members like Uncle and others meet Reveal that Uncle ISNT Harlow, BUT the handkerchief in his back pocket IS Harlows, they were riding pals before Uncle joined the gang, maybe his alcoholism got heavy following Harlows passing idk But yeah basically just fill in a bunch of gaps using a narrative around Landon in the past, then a more modern narrative around Landon’s descendant and Jack living in the new version of the map See Charles, Sadie, tribes moving in and fighting over territory that used to belong to the Wapiti, Charles helps them all have reasonable territories with the help of Jack Lots of other things you could explore!
