I have always considered getting a winch for my FJ, but the thought of replacing the OEM front bumper with some aftermarket gaudy monstrosity has prevented me from pulling the trigger. But what you have done looks absolutely amazing. It looks very low profile and clean. In fact, I bet the average person who looked at it would think it came from Toyota like that. One of my major complaints with the FJ after 15 years of ownership is the fact that it does not have fog lights. I love that the US Offroad mount has that option too. Thanks for the video!

I wanted something that didn't draw attention to the vehicle and I think this did exactly that! The lights we installed in this video are great for lighting up the sides of the road to watch for deer.

Great video! Some notes. This model of our mount is from 2014 or earlier. We have since changed a few things including going to 1" wide shackle mounts, more drainage in the winch tub and made some slight clearance adjustments to the torque arms as noted in the video. We also now include some plates that go on over the 3 outer mounting studs for better faster surface contact, never had a problem but we thought it was a good idea (contact me if you want some). The torque arms are installed and welded with jigs but can flex left to right even though they are .250" thick as that is not their intended purpose but rather to arrest the torque forces created by winch usage in a front to back and vertical planes, so flexing them for a perfect fit is perfectly ok. As noted in the install docs, the AC lines will vary from vehicle to vehicle in their alignment, some need to be moved as noted, some do not, our V notch in the rear usually gives plenty of clearance in 2007-2009 models but in 2010 Toyota made some changes and will usually require moving the AC line back as noted in the video. Using fuel line is also noted in the docs and was used here as well, makes for a good long term insurance policy against abrasion that I have verified on my own FJ and others over a period of 7+ years. Every winch solenoid box is different and routing the 2 to 4 gauge wires are therefore all different but zip tying them to the bracing, as done in this video, always works well and is highly recommended. Cutting the plastic is typically a very simple task but the rusted fasteners made your job a bit tougher, you were smart to leave some plastic to trim to fit as noted in the docs. We have sold well over a 1000 of these world wide and glad you are happy with it. I have added this to our installation video library on our site so others can benefit from your experience www.usoffroad.us/fj-cruiser-winch-bumper-installation-videos/ . Great job!

Thanks man. Very happy with the mount so far...I wanted a way to mount a winch without a flashy attention-drawing bumper; your mount fits the bill perfectly. I bought this particular mount off of Craigslist from a guy who originally purchased it but never installed it. After buying it and looking at your website I figured he forgot to give me the pieces you mentioned for the studs so I made my own out of 3/16" plate, but thanks for the offer.

I think that the ZXR9000 sticker needs to go too. Clock the gearbox forward by 45 degrees to give you better access to the clutch lever and ditch the circuit breaker in favour of a physical isolator switch. Also upgrade to a synthetic rope and aluminium hawse fairlead.

Good install video, ive got the exact same winch and have used it and abused it and it still functions flawlessly, but i live in south central Florida and the AC is a must especially during summer monsoon season with high humidity...cant figure why toyota engineers left that ac line exposed and so vulnerable. Ive got all of your videos saved in my YT library, your an excellent teacher. You must have some background in teaching or public speaking

Thanks man! This winch has not worked well for me. I’ve needed to use it 4 times so far, and of those times it’s failed to operate 3 times. Of course when I find the time to take it apart to diagnose the problem it starts working again. I know the issue is somewhere inside the control box...

@dironaa3 жыл бұрын
The motor has trouble turning after it sits for more than a couple days without being used. In order to make it turn I need to pound the motor case with a hammer while holding the winch button. The issue was intermittent for about a year, now it’s consistent. The winch now has a nice collection of hammer marks

Cool! If you haven't already bought a winch, I'd highly suggest going with a Warn. A year in, the harbor freight winch is already giving me problems. I've never had a problem with a Warn.

Delivery depends on who you buy it from. I've had problems with the winch in the video so I'd recommend buying a Warn brand winch if you can find one.

So, with the extra weight up front, do you think a suspention up grade is required?
@dironaa5 жыл бұрын
Tough to say. With 150k miles on it my suspension was already well worn and I upgraded to bilstein 5100's to level the front anyway. With a full bumper I'd say a suspension upgrade would be a good idea but with just the US Off-road winch plate I think you'd be fine without.

Good video. I did the a few months ago same exact set up. One suggestion you might want to cut more into the bumper where the leaver is to release and lock the winch. When I the trail and your trying to winch it's a tight squeeze. Very tight.
@dironaa6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip! How are you liking the setup so far?
@v33sonata6 жыл бұрын
besides for jamming my hand to get the lever I love it so far. I've had to use the winch only a handful of times but all and all for the money it's a good set up. I had my bumper powercoated and it's holding up well so far.
@dironaa6 жыл бұрын
Haha good to hear. Powder coating is the way to go for sure. Not impressed with the Rustoleum bed liner so far and if I have problems with It rusting I'll probably pull the bumper off and have it powder coated too.

@dironaa5 жыл бұрын
Tell me about it. The price for a whole aftermarket bumper on these things is astronomical. I come from the Jeep world where you can pick up a decent American made front bumper for around 300 bucks. Not much south of a grand available for the FJs.

After making this video the owner of US Off Road messaged me and offered to send a few missing parts that I didn’t get from the guy I bought the mount from. He also said they’ve made minor updates to the way they manufacture the mount since the time this one was built, so the new design may require no adjustment at all
