Great bag - I waxed mine and it gave it a very nice aged look along with the waterproofing.i did find it a bit large for an everyday bag and being a sucker for leather I wish they made the medium with the leather bottom -good review fellas

I've been using this pack for about a year now and I'm still impressed. Yes, it's not exactly a high "bang for your buck" sort of item, but it's one of those things you just love once you've seen it in person. It's also pretty versatile and incredibly comfortable to wear. I'd buy it again.

I just picked up this pack, for 40% off retail. I really like this pack! Perfect for day trips, or over nighters. I absolutely love the weight of the pack, and the comfortably of wearing it. Would recommend this pack if you can find it on sale. Also for max protection you need to put Greenland wax on the G1000.

I have one of these rucksacks and I really love this pack, especially because of its traditional appearance. It uses natural material, which can be waterproofed with wax and will only look better with age.

Would this or perhaps the medium version be good for school? I need to carry a small laptop, a few slim folders, a couple notebooks, gym clothes, and a lunchbox. I feel like with the added size of fitting in a lunchbox maybe the large is necessary and it would be more versatile, but the $50 difference is a lot and I'm also concerned the backpack is a little over sized and hard to open quickly for day to day use. Thanks anyone who can answer my questions.

I have the medium version of this bag and it never occured to me that the pocket where the seat pad is stored was for water bottles. I've been putting my laptop in there instead of the pocket behind because the bottom of it seemed more padded but nonetheless it's good to know.

Theres a lot to like here. I like the concealed drink bottle holders and the general look, its certainly mixing the modern and the rustic. The leather base is great, but certainy where the price is added. I find the same with the leather adjusters on my frost river pack straps. You need to sort of get it sized before you put it on, because theyre a bit stiff and awkward to change on the go. Overall, this looks a little better than my frost river summit expedition in terms of function, a few things here I wish mine had, like the stiffened or padded backing to add a bit of structure to it and stop my cookpot from poking me when I dont pack it perfectly. Great review as usual dudes!

Is it me, or are those keyhole's on the topstraps punched the wrong way around? when the pack is full and you want it to be closed, shouldnt the straps pull the little knob to the narrow side of the keyhole? nice "looking" pack and nice video!

Good review of this rucksack.....a few of the issues with the leather stitching seem to be a little much. I would like to see a removable hip belt which if you are carrying some heavy items is great for redistributing the weight to your hips and off your shoulders. Agreed - the seat pad that doubles as extra padding for the back if you are carrying pointing objects like a scope or camera gear is very cool. Price? On the high side for me.....so I keep hoping for a sale.

Great video and nice channel. I know you said you don't use the lash loops or leather "anchors" as you called them, but how big are the openings? I would agree with you that I would pick this company's products for temperate zones or boreal forests. Their material choices are better than the competition. I wouldn't pick this brand for thePacific Northwest or Northern UK where it rains constantly because G1000 isn't totally waterproof nor jungle/rain forests because the material is too thick. I have the Smock No. 1 and it looks bombproof. I am going to take it to my fall trip to Mongolia.

I wouldn't trust Fjällraven to make a long lasting strap. I have the Foldsack no2 that had the same kind of single stitch design (without the rivet so I guess that's something) that broke after a month on both ends with normal use and content (books, ultrabook). I didn't send it back for warranty but opted to fix it myself. It's not like it was a sloppy job, just faulty by design.

Nice materials but way too much for such a small thing. The side pouches protruding into the main pack is bad. No strap adjustments at the top of the straps means you can't get it up high on your back as you could if there were.

While I certainly respect the craftsmanship and quality of the products featured on this here and the quality of the channel itself, I feel like this channel is centered around how you "look" while being outdoors over any actual functionality of BEING outdoors. Everything is made of heavy leathers, canvases, wools, steel etc. This stuff is all good if your posing for an instagram photo or something but for anyone that spends a lot of time traveling in the mountains and functioning outdoors for any extended period of time what so ever, 90% of the products on this channel wouldn't even be considered. And for many reasons including safety of the user in just fabric choice alone in certain weather conditions. I really do love the spirit of this channel and this guys clear love for being outdoors, however it all seems more like a love for ones "appearance" when outdoors over any rational and safe functionality. Lightweight ripstop nylons, cuben fiber fabrics, titanium cookwares, packable down jackets, capilene fabrics and so on is what every serious backpacker uses for a reason. You may not look like a lumberjack in a photo but you'll be safe, fast and efficient in the main purpose to begin with, being outdoors.
@huckhuckhuck8 жыл бұрын
90% huh? You apparently haven't watched even half of their videos. They show some of everything, hitting just about every style of hiking and being outdoors. Just because you enjoy lightweight modern materials, that doesn't mean EVERYONE does or should. Funny how that works, this thing called individuality.

Backpacking is one activity to do in the forest. And this is a conversation that doesn't get brought up enough. I've spent hundreds of nights outdoors, worked for the Forest Service, etc. I know what it takes to be outdoors for extended periods. But you've described backpacking only (and more specifically ultra light). And that's just one "activity" to do in the forest. Most of us visit, we don't live in the forest. Everyone has their own version of what it means to be an "outdoorsman". If I don't care about light weight fabrics and hiking 15 miles a day, does that make me less legit? If I'd rather hike 5 miles, take my time, and observe everything around me, does that mean I don't know what I'm doing? This is not a backpacking channel. This is not a bushcraft channel. It's an outdoors channel.

OK...First, I noticed that the Fjallraven pack sells for around $150 on Amazon, instead of the $225 that you mentioned, which is a good thing. Based upon watching your reviews, and hearing your gear preferences for quite a long time, I feel confident in stating that you are a traditionalist of some type, as you seem to like the old fashioned style of gear, clothing, etc. You and Dave Canterbury should have been born in the 1800s, so you could run with Jedediah Smith, Daniel Boone, Davy Crockett, and the like. LOL You are kind of an "Antiquer," a guy who probably likes cars from the 60s, even though they are not as efficient as a 2016 model car, it is the style that you like, you are basically a form over function type of guy, you like the smell of the leather, the feel of the stitching, and the brass buckles, which is OK; as I like old cars, and tradition, and the way that the Fjallraven pack looks, but just not convinced that it can perform as well as the modern day packs. After watching your video I did some research, and I have to say that I think that the modern day packs will perform better, have way more features, and are more comfortable. Take a look at some of the Osprey packs for example, and I think that you will see what I mean. I love the Osprey Manta and Osprey Kestrel style, and all of their features like an external hydration bladder, and a built in rain cover. www.campsaver.com/manta-ag-36-l-men-s-backpack www.campsaver.com/kestrel-28-pack#media_videos Also check out the Osprey Atmos, and from what I have seen and read, most people rave about this pack. www.campsaver.com/atmos-ag-50-pack Look at features like the anti-gravity suspension, the straps, and the back support. Actually there are a ton of features that you do not find in the Fjallraven pack, but it is easy enough for you to read the entire list in the links that I provided. I own several packs from Camelback, and Gregory among others, and I think that the Gregory Savant 38 is a great pack for general purpose backpacking. It is probably not as good as the Osprey packs, but after all is said and done, it is a great pack, and I only paid around $50 for the large size in Thunder Cloud Black, so I think that got a great deal. Check out the links below: www.backpackinggearoutlet.com/product/gregory-savant-38-backpack-thundercloud-black-medium/ www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005EM8LU0/?tag=backpackinggearoutlet-20 kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2HOd5pvoLJ9oq8 kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKnZiXR9fsqShas The Fjallraven pack looked uncomfortable to me, and you will sweat tremendously more, with that type of back panel, as opposed to the more ventilated modern panels. I also assume that you will probably have to wax the material, and I really prefer a pack that has both sternum, and hip belts, as I think that without those belts, the pack will bounce around, or come loose if you need to move fast. So, yeah, I like the way that the Fjallraven pack looks, but for $150, I might have to go with a more modern pack, that has many more features, and is ergonomically just a better fit. If I had an extra $150.00, and I did not need to purchase anything else like food one week, I would probably splurge on a Fjallraven pack. For now, it will have to go on my wish list. Thanks!
