Fair warning fellow hikers: August in the northern parts of Scandinavia may well mean snow and subzero temperatures! You should absolutely bring a three season sleeping bag. Hat and gloves are mandatory as well. The weather will change quickly from one minute to the next and can differ greatly from one year to another. Other than that this is a great way to experience the wilderness and the elements but with the safty of an organized event. "Go tur!"

Here Here, well said. The weatehr can change on an hour to hour basis. I had reasonable weather, but those walking behind me suffered stong winds, big hail stones and cold nights. This was the other side of the highest point, so it just goes to show you. Better to have the kit and not need it then need it and not have it.

Thank you for this video! I would love to go to this incredible event but it sounds so bloody expensive. Congratulations to you for your accomplishment; 110 km through pristine Swedish country was worth it to be sure. I loved the river rapids where you stopped to dip your feet. I could days just sitting and watching the rapids and doing some fishing. Tah mate!

What an awesome video! I’m going to try and get on the 2022 trip. Quick logistical question, did you know when you were going to finish and therefore felt confident in booking your return flights prior to arriving in Sweden?

Hi Maureen, the beautiful thing about the outdoors is its available to everyone. Granted, some things are more extreme than others, but is fantastic out there. Whatever your level, wrap up warm and enjoy it. Thanks for your support. ATB Alister

Thanks Alister for pulling together this video. This is helpful and answered a number of questions I had there were hard to find answers to. One question: Do you know if the campgrounds and bus transfers take credit cards or only cash? Thanks again.

Hi Alister, great video with loads of interesting insights. Really enjoyed it. My question: did you often use the map (and compass) or could you navigate by following the signs (red stones and crosses)? Thanks a lot and keep up the great vlogs! Cheers from Belgium.
@MyRucksackandI7 жыл бұрын
Hi Kristof, thank you for your kind words. I really only used the map to chart my progress each day. On the first day I marked where I thought would be a good place to camp each night and paced myself to each day. You can easily follow the trail. the red marked stones and the other walkers. You certainly do not need to be a good map reader to complete the walk. ATB Alister

Hello Alister, I love your videos about the Fjallraven classic. I think about particapate next edition. Do you have a gear list for me. I never did a hike like this and I want to prepare realy good. Did you practice before starting the hike? Greetings, Erik (Netherlands)
@MyRucksackandI7 жыл бұрын
Hi Erik, I will certainly put a list together, maybe even a video of the items I carried on the walk this year if that helps. I walk all year round, so I didnt feel the need do any additional training as such. I would certainly recommend that you are fit, it isnt that hilly but its a fair walk each day. I would certainly do it if you have the chance, you wont regret it. Good luck Alister

Great video, very informative thank you. Got my ticket for 2018 and looking forward to the event. QUESTION: I arrive on the Friday and start at 9am on the Saturday; Is there a bus running through from Kurina to Nokkaloukta early in the morning to make the 9am start or do I bus through on my arrival on Friday and camp at the start in Nikkaloukta ready for my event start at 9am on the Saturday? Thanks for any advice.

Sea Kayaker hi my friend. Congrats on getting a ticket for this years Classic. You will love it. When you arrive in Kiruna, there is a bus that runs from the airport to the town for approx £12. When you arrive at the school which is used as the check in point there is a campsite right beside where you can stay the night for approx £25. There is then a bus that will take you from the playground of the school right to the start point in Niikkaloukta. The bus is free of charge. Hope that helps. Enjoy the walk buddy, take it slow and enjoy the scenery. Make friends and memories. I would like to hear how it went for you when you return. ATB Alister

My Rucksack and I Thanks Alistair. One more question; does the bus from Kiruna to the start at Nikkaluokta leave in the morning in time for a 9am set off?
@MyRucksackandI7 жыл бұрын
Sea Kayaker yes it does, there will be more than one bus and they will be full of walkers. I think it leaves at 0630hrs. I had a 1300hr start time and the bus left at 1030hrs I believe.

My Rucksack and I Thanks for your advice Alistair, great video, very helpful. I’ll toast a reindeer burger to you and a couple of jugs at Abisko. Tom
@MyRucksackandI7 жыл бұрын
Enjoy the hike Tom. The reindeer burger are 150SEK, £15 in english money.... too much for me, although they looked really nice. Enjoy the beer at the end.... its well earned by the time you arrive there. ATB Alister

Hi Thanks for this informative video on this event. I will plan for the 2019 edition. Is there any requirement on using Fjallraven packs or clothing? Is there any rules on the weight of the pack? Thanks
@MyRucksackandI7 жыл бұрын
Hi Donald, Thank you for watching. No, there isnt any requirements on using anything Fjallraven. You are free to take whatever equipment you want to. They do have a kit list with some items being mandatory. No rules on weight of pack either. People carry between 10-20KGS, its a personal thing. ATB Alister
