I’m running 25mm ID 32mm OD rims that are 50mm deep on my gravel bike right now. Chris King hubs, had them built. They’re not particularly light at 1600 grams, but they hold speed really really well. Holding speed is important for me because some US gravel races can be several hours long. Running 47mm Pathfinder Pro’s. Gravel is by far and away the hottest cycling segment in the US.

Sweetspot is going to be wider than 40 mm in the near future. There are videos on 50 mm performing better than less wide tires on gravel, as long as casing is supple.

Looks interesting but comparing it to going from a climbing wheel (35ish deep) to a deep front (80-90) and rear disc is insane, because as it says in video gravel speeds are slower so that even if your wheels are somewhat faster than others the speeds aren't high enough

@@Chazz4804 it’s something of a myth that aero only matters above a certain speed. Yes, the faster you go, the more watts saved but even for slower ride speeds you’d still be looking at the same savings over a fixed course. Hence why we show time savings over e.g. the Unbound course for these wheels. But the comparison is still valid - the difference is that big

How wide does the 40mm X1 tire measure on these rims?

The specs says 40mm Tire is optimal. Is that measured 40mm or labeled 40mm? My 35mm GK's measure 38mm on 25mm internals, so the 35mm GK's might plump out to 39/39.5mm on the FKT's?
