Upon this May's fair stage, I mark the turning of seventy years in my life's grand play. Forty-five years hence, I chanced upon my Juliet, whose beauty and grace doth rival the very stars in their celestial dance. As the sands of time flow through the hourglass, my love for her doth but grow, her charm and desirability blossoming like the sweetest rose in the garden of my affections.

I prefer adaptations to be set at the time they were written as, therefore I prefer this version to 1996. I prefer Jane Austen adaptations to be set in the Georgian/Regency era to the modern age and so on with any classic work. I don't see the point in having it in modern day. Why does it being set in the past mean people can't relate to it? I just don't understand it.

I concurr yet the priest played by Paul Giamatti. Mr. GIAMATTI portrayal is much more inbued with love & concern for Romeo & his Juliet. The extent of anguish when the priest sees his plans go awry in juliets death is a high point in the film. The priest from the filming 1967 is okay but he just doesn't bring the emotion out as does Paul Giamatti. My partner says Douglass booth as romeo, Oliver hussey as juliet put & Giamatti put into the newer film would be spectacular! maybe someone in the future will be able to switch those characters into the new film. To me, both tybalts are good as are the king, though I did like mercutio in the first film better, also thought the nurse maid in the newest film is much better.....

It entirely it depends on if someone is willing to take Romeo and Juliet seriously in the first place. The 90’s version is self-aware in its parody, so someone who is prone to making fun of Romeo and Juliet would prefer its spin on the story and would find it more entertaining.

What is a youth? Impetuous fire. What is a maid? Ice and desire. The world wags on, a rose will bloom.... It then will fade: so does a youth, so does the fairest maid. Comes a time when one sweet smile has a season for a while.... Then love's in love with me. Some they think only to marry, others will tease and tarry. Mine is the very best parry. Cupid he rules us all. Caper the cape, but sing me the song, Death will come soon to hush us along. Sweeter than honey... and bitter as gall, Love is a task and it never will pall. One of the best film songs, from one of the best films ever made! Franco Zeffirelli (director) and Nino Rota (composer) were masters of the art.

I was working on life then all of a sudden thought of this song I've heard in grade 11 English class while watching Romeo and Juliet so here I am, reminiscing of the past.

The song is as beautiful as the movie it's in. This version looks like it could've been released yesterday it's so clear and well made

They really made this movie to catch your soul and to play with you emotionally. I haven't felt such strong emotions while watching a movie in so long. GOOD JOB FRANCO ZEFFIRELLI.

Carlos Rangel really- well, if you know SOMETHING about my country, Argentina, you would be proud to be part of this land- And if your intention is to begin a discussion, sorry... Argentine people are not so stupid to do so- I think you are from Mexico, well, i would not be so proud of being a mexican, considering the terrible things that happens there- Jealously maybe? it's your problem, not mine- And don't u ever insult my country- Don't do it- it puts u in a patetic situation-
@ivonnemendeville46399 жыл бұрын
Carlos Rangel It's disgusting to read such a commentary here- To talk in the insulting way you did about a Country u probably don't know. I have many Argentine friends and I have been there 3 times- And I love it's culture & mix of races. How rude & unpolite u are!!. YES!. Argentines have all the reasons in the world to be proud of his country- From where you are from? Or it's a secret Mr Rangel? I hate people who uses youtube to insult cultures, countries & people-
@anamariaytomas9 жыл бұрын
Carlos Rangel as an Argentine girl I feel insulted by your comment so I beg the person who posted this video to delete this guy from here- Put it in my place for a second, if somebody insults your country and your people... what would u do?- Olivia Hussey is half Argentine and English, that is NOT an excuse to such a comment- I have friends in Mexico and I love the Country and it's people: You Carlos Rangel are an exception-

anamariaytomas don't bother ana maria, this piece of nothing is lost in his own patetic life- We, argentines ARE PROUD, yes, and we have many reasons to be. A piece of Europe in South America, so the visitors says.

I watched this Franco Zeffirelli Romeo and Juliet in Rome, Italy, when I was 12 years old. My god, it's as good as I remember! Shakespeare understood! (I remember that when I was a bit actor in the 1963 University of Colorado summer production, in every performance people cried out just as Juliet was going to plunge the dagger in her chest, and there were sobs, faces streaming with tears--men and women.)

They both would have lived if Friar John would have delivered the letter and Romeo not go to such extremes. .-. The Friar could have personally delivered the message to him. We had a big discussion in class about the many holes in his plan. Still. Good movie.
