0:27 I just want to point out, this is the only time in the video, you say they use 3pin XLR, when it should be DMX. For those that dont know, the difference between an XLR and DMX is the amount of impedance in the cable. Although the cables look the same, do not mix those cables up. That could damage equipment. Although great tutorial and im sure ill be using this soon enough!

Correction: The plug is still called 3-pin and 5-pin XLR- on both DMX and balanced audio cables. We did say get a DMX cable (not a mic cable) but indeed whe did not say why you should make sure it's a DMX cable. Chances are they are not going to find a 3-pin XLR to 5-pin XLR mic cable though, mics tend to not do that ;)

You can in fact control any hardware device with your daw using Voltage Controller. As long as you are able to connect it properly.

Just keep in mind that sometimes DMX hardware have their own "time resolution" (as I figured out while working with my own lights) so keep experimenting till you find out how your laser responds to fast automation changes ;)

That's pretty cool but a plugin where you can load fixture context is pretty much necessary. Take the dimmer/strobe for example. You need to know the right value and then zoom in to hit the range. Some lights have gobo wheels (mostly 8, so roughly 12% range for each). You want the gobo with the stars? Which value was it again? Then you mix in other fixtures and those have completely different ranges for their strobe speed for example. BUT the fact that it works at all is amazing.

Yeah, i think its about time for that… i feel like i seen the reason why they haven’t yet in forums. I think it has something to do with android. It feel more and more like this is an excuse now that the iOS IAA/audiobus has been around a while. But its just like how logic pro mobile got their Version of AUv3… mobile FL users may never see those… :( even if apple gives them the source code it may never be implemented to fairness with android users.

Now Imageline needs to fix the marker system so it actually pauses when you have it set to pause. In otherwords this will all work if you have your set set up like a dj all your songs strung together in one long session and just hit play at the beginning it will work. But if you want to do a different way like in my case I want to start video and lights with the play head and it pause at pause markers well it doesn't pause at least 50% of the time it doesn't work. So yeah for your bedroom its fine but in front of an audience just not yet.

Is there any way to export the DMX info as a file that can be read by a computer that doesn’t have FL studio by any chance? Toying with the idea of doing custom lighting for local bands who might not use the same DAW

Just export the bone projects, this will export the automations you have made, but you will still need fl studio

Yes, you could isolate the bass or some track, put a Peak Controller, and assign the output of the controller to move the knob corresponding to a certain light in your DMX setup

DMX can do múltiple lights. You can even connect them in series

Dmx uses 512 channels. To control myltplev lights you need to set the starting address for each light. The light in the video uses 9 channels. If you have 2 of them you need to set the channel of the 2nd device to 10. Then you have channel 1 and 10 control the pan of both. And now you can control them individually.
