Thank you for watching!
In today's video, Grady shows us how to replace rope on your flagpole. For this demonstration we used a display pole, but this technique can be used on all outdoor poles as long as your rope is still pulled through your pulley!

My old halyard broke from being frayed. This video helped me see a better way to install with the fisherman's knot and proper location to put the clips. Thanks, very helpful. Next I will try to install a new pole mount solar light.

We have a 45' flag poll in my community. Today I replaced the rope using your recommendations. It went flawlessly. Instead of using duct tape, I used first aid cloth tape which I found more flexible when connecting the old rope to the new rope going through the pulley at the top. Thank you for the video.

Thank you, I was wondering about where the knot was going to end up. I didn't want it half way up the flag pole. Now I know, thank you!

Another idea for tying the rope ends together is to do that BETWEEN the flag snap hooks. This way there is never an obstruction in your rope going through the pulley. Also, should your end knots ever come loose for any reason, then your flag hooks that are connected to your flag are keeping the two loose ends together and you can then lower the flag to re-secure the ends.

Great video. I am replacing several flag pole ropes at Spencer oK city hall. Was trying to save our small town some money by not renting a bucket truck. Confident now that I can do it. Thanks!

My rope broke, darn it, wish I would have thought of replacing ahead of time. Maybe I should get a telescoping flag pole.... or a bucket...eh. Good video, happy to have it explained before I just went & ordered another rope, thanks!

How exactly do I determine length of replacement rope?
@Flagandbanner
@Flagandbanner 3 жыл бұрын
You would take the height of your flagpole and double it to get the length you need. So if your flagpole is 20' you would order 40' of rope.

I live dangerously. My flag hoist is open-ended. I severely dislike seeing slack rope between the top and bottom of the flag or the flag itself being slack between the hooks. An open-ended halyard is the only way to really avoid such situations. Of course, my flagstaff is not extremely tall (20'), so if a snap hook gets accidentally to-blocked, I can recover it without a bucket truck.

Great video! Best to connect a second flag the same way?
@Flagandbanner
@Flagandbanner 2 жыл бұрын
You could use a double snap hook to connect the two flags in the center or you can use the same method with the second flag leaving a few inches between the two flags.
@GTNTHR
@GTNTHR 2 жыл бұрын
@@Flagandbanner I think the same method is better solution to minimize stress between bottom eyelet of US and top eyelet of USMC flags.

Is there a difference in how the flag flies, depending on the material used? Does nylon work better than woven fabric?
@Flagandbanner
@Flagandbanner 3 жыл бұрын
Great question! There are some differences. Nylon is a fan favorite for flying because of how well it catches the wind. And the heavier a flag, the harder it is to fly without some real wind power. We have a great video on the different material types: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYbOeX-kpdqVh7s
