The #1 best for my straight hair. I've tried a lot of unorthodox pomades and I keep coming back to this one.

Hey bro, I appreciate the depth you go into. I have similar hair to you and was curious which hair styling you prefer at the longer length for strong hold and matte finish. Thanks man, subbed.

Firsthand pomade is bomb, or, and of course, Blackship works well

I actually like this label much better than the new ones. Goes with their look/marketing

Love the review brother! I completely agree with the smell haha. At first I couldn't stand it, but it definitely grew on me once I started to love its hold. Although I like O'douds and Crystal Lake, Black ship is on a whole other level. I was curious if you have any good clays to suggest? I was looking at Lockhart's Matte Clay and 19fifties Matte Clay.
@TheWorkmansPomp8 жыл бұрын
Thanks man, I certainly agree with you whole heartily! As for clays it depends on what type of hair and style your going for! Lockharts, with a little bit of water, can hold a pomp/slick back pretty well. Shear Revivals American Gardens is a good medium clay with lots of texture and Pomps Not Dead Vicious Spungen is a good light clay (I like using it as a clay topper because its super shiny). I plan on doing reviews of all three in the future! Let me know if theres one you want to see first and I will bump it up on my list!

Hey Brandon, thanks for the great reivew! I'm an avid pomade collector, and I want to buy something from Flagship. However, I'm torn between Blackship and Strait of Malacca. I haven't seen a review from you about Strait of Malacca just yet, but if you have tried that one too, how do those two compare? I have pretty similar hair to you- which one has more hold? Thanks!
@TheWorkmansPomp6 жыл бұрын
Hey there, thanks for the support. To me it comes down to preference. Blackship has better hold and endurance but is less slick and less shiny then Malacca. Overall I prefer Malacca because I like slick products and the scent is killer. However, if your looking for hold and endurance I’d say go with blackship.
@Oliver-dc3sq8 жыл бұрын
How does the endurance compare to O'douds or Crystal Lake?
@TheWorkmansPomp8 жыл бұрын
I feel like it lasts longer than both because it has a higher wax content than both.

Just got this product and find the hold is not that strong and the pomade feel so light and soft in the hair :s not what I was expecting. The quiff/Pomp kept flopping down a little also and u had to keep pushing it back with my hands. I used 2 medium scoops, maybe I just need more each time I use it, or this pomade is just not gunu work for me :(
@RebLict8 жыл бұрын
Hi, im currently using a cocktail of byrd classic pomade and byrd matt pomade. I get a really good solid hold throughout the day (especially on days i exercise). Im wondering if blackship pomade will be a great replacement (mainly in terms of hold)? what's your advise on this workman? P.S. i live in a humid country and have straight, thin hair. aka asian. :)
@TheWorkmansPomp8 жыл бұрын
+Fe2 Hey there, thanks for the question. It's kind of tough to say because it sounds like the pomade you're doing is primarily oil based and Blackship is water-based. However, I can say this, Blackship has really good hold without being overly aggressive and if they can hold my thick hair then I think it'll hold your thinner hair. If you're looking for something waxier kind of like an oil based then try Redhouse Firm! I also have an endurance test coming up very soon of Blackship so maybe that will help you make a decision if it will last for your hair type.

+The Workman's Pomp hey thanks for the reply! really grateful! i cant wait for that endurance test video to be better informed. excited. keep up the good work you're doing here! :)

I just picked up some of this a few days ago and it doesn't seem to scoop out as easy as yours. It's quite hard/firm at the top and I have to work at it a few times to get enough. Not sure if it has dried out a little or if its just the consistency.
@TheWorkmansPomp8 жыл бұрын
+Craig Groves I've noticed that the most current batches are harder on the top but get soft from the middle down. I just got a GreatShip (9oz) a week back of Blackship and it takes some effort to get the top layer out!
@cjdontthink28 жыл бұрын
I was thinking it might soften up once I get into it more, that's great news. Didn't see they have a GreatShip till now (since I bought from a second party), but that is a great value for your money. I might have to pick one up if I continue to like the pomade. Thanks for the quick reply and great video!

+Craig Groves No problem and thanks for the support. Definitely wait till next month and keep checking theFlagship website. It's the second anniversary and Wade was saying that he's going to do some limited runs! I'm hoping for some different scented or variants of Blackship!

A well rounded heavy hold unorthodox pomade that holds and styles well if you know how to use it and can stand the scent. Perfect summary, total love/hate relationship with this thing. Application and styling really requires practice, scent is kinda horrid, but the result makes up for a lot of it.
@TheWorkmansPomp8 жыл бұрын
+BramV013 Thankfully he does limited scent runs from time to time. The peppermint one is probably my favorite!

What is the difference between the amber jar and the see through one? I noticed the one with the amber color jar is harder to scoop out

Nice review man! I've got some decently thick, wavy hair. Would you recommend picking this up over Crystal Lake/O Doud's?
@TheWorkmansPomp8 жыл бұрын
+TheWoogie2 I would. I think Blackship is one of the best heavy UWB out there. Crystal Lake and Odouds are on the dryer side though so if you like that feeling go with those!

Hey Bro, thanks for the video. It is the first video i am watching of you. Is there any video on how to cut my hair similar to yours. because I also believe to have thick hair as it feels like most products don't give me the hold I need so now that i am more into pomade and clays and stuff I am wondering what to tell my generic hairdresser to cut my hair so that i achieve a nice pomp. Greetings from Germany :)
@TheWorkmansPomp8 жыл бұрын
+VollFlippi I plan on making a video of when I go to the barber but for now the best bet is to take a picture of what you would like to the barber. I usually get a high taper for the sides and leave the length on top. The top length when combed down in from usually doesn't go past my nose.

man your hairs look awesome, i have long hair that come close to my nose but i never succeed to make a pomp in the end i just slickback my hair to the side. Fyi i just use normal comb, and i never use blowdry cause i dont want the heat damaged my hair . Do you have any suggestion tips or trick or equipment that can be use to make pomp more easier? Thanks man
@TheWorkmansPomp7 жыл бұрын
+Kevin Karnoto Thanks man, appreciate it! First off, it just comes down to learning the way your hair wants to go. My hair naturally wants to part where it does and go to the right. That's how I get the roundness in the front is by using an Afro pick to get volume! I have a video on my channel that talks about what I specifically use if your interested. Most of the stuff is under a few dollars apiece. Today I usually only use a comb and a pick in the morning, but it took about a year to figure out what works and what doesn't work with my hair! My suggestion is to just experiment and find what works and what doesn't work!
@kevszkar017 жыл бұрын
Wow thanks man for the quick response , i already seen your videos about tool that you used to achieve the pomp look. I will try that and see what works best for men. Thanks for sharing me tips man keep up your great work
@imjustsaying64776 жыл бұрын
Plus I think using a blowdryer is a better way to shape your hair...you can achieve lots of volume....letting your hair to dry naturally can cause more damage to your hair than using a blowdryer

awesome review brotha! Looks freaking epic on your hair. I love u get that volume and clean comb lines. Thanks to you ill probably be getting this now haha. How is it when it comes to washing it out? I know u said its much easier but is it really easy? I hate sleeping with the product on my hair im the type that needs to wash it off before bed. Is it really as hard as people say? Swing by my channel if u like. I also review hair products!

It seems to me like the amount of product you're using is actually making your hair look worse, because without product it looks super healthy and strong, but afterwards it looks insanely greasy.
@TheWorkmansPomp7 жыл бұрын
+SilentShadows Depends on the product as well as the lighting I use in the bathroom. But some do actually make my hair super greasy. This review is kinda old (you can tell because there’s no editing and I’m rambly) but I’ve gotten better lately!

I use Arcadian Clay Pomade and Shear Revival Crystal Lake and the general rule with both is that less = more, but to each their own i guess.
