I fell in love with Flagstaff in 1975, population 23,000! I was so enchanted with it for many of the same reasons as you, only imagine more of the original buildings still there and quite a bit more rugged. My daughter was born there. We have so many memories from our 17 years there. It was a much quieter time (except for the trains!), but the downtown looks even more fun now! I had a women’s bookstore above Alpine Pizza, danced in a bar called Monsoons in the stone bldg across from the train station, and worked at Macy’s part-time when I wasn’t working in the Grand Canyon on the river. Ahhh, so many memories of Flagstaff! I’m 67 now. I was 20 when Imoved there from Wisconsin, I was 37 when I moved to Washington State. Enjoy your lives there! I KNOW you will!

I moved to Arizona many years ago as a travel nurse. Since then, I've completed nursing assignments all over the US but just keep coming back to the majestic Sonoran desert. My home and first love, living in this town. The experience of moving here when I was six years old. Going to the several local schools. Living in lower green law. This town was everything and more. Growing up here with your best friends, exploring Sedona, Grand Canyon, several areas around this town. Working in this town. It’s a beautiful and wonderful place to be. I had a great time and I love this town so much. Went to elementary, middle school, and high school here. I moved to NM, made a family, brought them back here and they absolutely loved it. But things happened. And we had to move. I miss This town and get sadden that we as a family that we can’t live here. But I love this place. I have so much memories here. I’ve been to the lava caves, camp Colton. Did so much here, can’t believe it. But i am happy that I have my family and I am happy with my family where I at. Great video. Keep up the great work.

From a Flagstaff native ((1947). The flooding (snow melt) on the FT. Valley Road (HW 164) has been terrible because of a forest fire in the Schultz Pass area in the San Francisco peaks. They have installed a wall of sandbags along with a massive culvert system to re-direct the flooding but it was too little, too late for many residents. I have a life- long friend who has lived off of Ft Valley Rd.in his family's compound near the Museum of Northern Az for 76 years and he has finally said goodby and moved to Cottonwood. Will always love my first 19 years in Flagstaff but the allure of the desert in Phoenix/Scottsdale was too strong.

The dry air dries out the soil and forests as well, and that spells wildfire. It's not uncommon for Flagstaff to experience nearly no rain from April until well into the summer. With so little water and dusty, windy air blowing about, a tiny spark can turn catastrophic in an instant.
