I use to sharpen them when they're still attached to the rotor, works fine

Yes I agree also possible to do. I did try that too, but after sharpening 2pcs laying on the ground etc. I realised I will need to turn around the whole mower but this one weight 300kg, the easiest and maybe quickest option I thought is to take the hammers off instead 🙂. I could also inspect hammers, bolts and lubricated it.
