I have made lots of salmon dip. From my experiences you need just straight up cream cheese sometimes you might need to add some water to it to soften it up and you need a lot of fresh dill a bunch of pepper and a lot more fish than you added and smoking it would help a lot. Hopefully this helps!

flair in February out here in Utah there is one of the biggest hunting expos and maybe you can bring Bux or Dux and set up a stand and its from the 15th to the 18th and is at the salt plaice expo center and its call the western hunting expo and you if come just to look around you will need to stay for 2 days because of how big it is

Filet your trout, season with Bbq seasoning and smoke. In a bowl add a block of cream cheese 1/2 cup mayo 1/2 cup sour cream diced red onion diced bell pepper and diced jalapeno and some of the juice. Add some more bbq seasoning to the mixture. Add your trout when it if firm and kinda dry to the touch. Enjoy.

How about setting a bunch of lumber on the ice to stand on? It would probably insulate the ice and keep it from growing overnight, but would definitely spread the weight out!

If you want smoky flavor without smoking the fish, you could drizzle smoke liquid on the inside before baking it. Then add a few drops to your dip mixture.

So I do a lot of salmon and trout/steelhead fishing. I don’t harvest a lot but when I do I always try to make a jerky or smoked “salmon candy”, a new one I just tried recently on a big brown trout I got was “burnt ends” but with trout. Turned out FIRE! Throw that in the cook book!

I’ve never thought of a trout dip before. I did a traveling job with a good friend of mine and we caught some trout while building a bike track at a KOA out in Pennsylvania and he grilled it with butter, garlic, onions, and mushrooms wrapped in foil and it was great. I’m usually not a fan of trout but the way he grilled it made me a fan.

in Montana we filet the trout and smoke them but that’s only with rainbow trout if it’s any other species of trout we grill it and it taste really good

Slide out to the middle of the pond, and run water out of the hole with the auger. Especially before night, or through out the night. it’ll thicken that ice up!
