The biggest problem I see with the minnow set up is they can get the bait from the outside so there is no need to go inside. Try a mesh bag tied in one side to the opposite side so it is kinda hanging in the middle that way they have to find a way in to get the feed. I do this for crawdads and crabs in my area. Love the vids Thank you :)

We keep our male rabbits together and have never had an issue. However, since Theo has been separated from the babies, you may need to watch them closely initially. The babies might just accept Theo as the alpha and be fine with it. Ours have never fought, although there's no guarantee, of course, since all rabbits could be different. You could also try putting a divider so that they get a chance to interact through the divider first, then remove it later. 🐇 🐇

Big Junior is talking about River Redhorse, they’re like a type of sucker fish, they can get decent sized too. We have them here in Michigan. They love the channels between Lake Michigan and the smaller lakes. They can get up to 30 inches, they’re a type of sucker so they might actually help with the algae in your hatchery pond too once they get bigger

@flair 3 best tips are make sure both ends of traps are inline with the flow of the creek , the best bait is plain old cheddar cheese block chuck some in the bottom of the net then roll some little balls and chuck around the net to get em fired up , the other best thing to do is if possible start by putting one or two minnows in each net once they see minnows in the trap eating they get fomo n have to get in … best of luck . Oh and p.s. you need a big esky with lots of water but u know that already 👍🏽👍🏽

Only thing to be careful of during the winter is don’t run it below 34F water temp, will prevent stratification of the thermocline and could kill your fish by over cooling the pond.

@@NickTroublehis pond is doomed, he overstocked it, it’s way too small. The only way a small pond like this works with that much biomass is if it’s spring fed.

A redhorse is a type of sucker throughout the midwest. It's definitely a thing. Never caught baby ones in a minnow trap though.
@FlagAlf
@FlagAlf Жыл бұрын
The Redhorse is not technically a sucker, but it gets confused with them because they're both bottom-feeding rough fish. What the boys caught are predominently Red Shiners, which are sometimes called Red-Horse Minnows. They are in the same family as carp, but obviously are much smaller.

Hi Andrew, how you doing. My grandfather owns his own bait shop and when ever he goes to get minnows he uses oats, they are perfect for cast netting because the oats will stay on on the surface and you can see the fish come up and get them.

Rosy red minnows seem to be what my fish and turtles love. I've tried a few different kinds. Between them and small comet goldfish. But, when I trap minnows. Bread made into balls. With fish oil. I get the one that petsmart sells for dogs/cats. Soak the bread in some. Usually works for me. I'm also in MI. Different types of minnows/fish like different things.

I'm no professional minnow trapper but I've found over the years that the depth of the trap makes a difference. I try to keep mine somewhat shallow and I've had good luck with just plain white bread. Mash the bread into a ball and it lasts longer. Of course I'm in Kentucky so what works here may not work in Nebraska. Great content guys.

HOT TAKES: 1. Auction Results: I think you should share how much you made from your auction and to make up any additional money you need, you should auction experiences where people can come trap, hunt and fish with you or appear in a video also create a line of signed gear and sell at a premium. 2. Minnow Trapping: You are losing a lot of potential fish due to the foods floating to the top of the cage and the fish picking at it from the outside. Get some small mesh bags and fill with bait, add a rock so it doesn’t float & either let it sink to the bottom or tie to the top so it stays in the middle of the trap. all traps should be left for at least 24 hrs and consider adding ham or salami pieces. 3. Animals: I say eat or sell the pig, it is a fat, motionless animal that does nothing for the vids. The only reason to have pigs is to eat them unless you get Pygmy pigs that are more of a pet. Start a small breeding and selling side job for the rabbits. Sell all the babies and breed over and over and as soon as Brooklyn is old enough, she can take it over as her own little business. Get rid of all birds that don’t lay eggs or you don’t plan on eating and use the money to buy more interesting new animals. 4. House & Property: Being a fish guy, you need an ultimate aquarium for your house, like a 1000 gallon filled with freshwater fish. I we also need some legit man caves. Obviously build out the room above the garage but also create a man space in the pole barn by the kitchen. I also think that you should build an off road racing and mudding pit somewhere on your land for your trucks and future new toys. 5. Start a new hobby like building your fave fast car. I know you don’t know much about this topic but watching you learn and grow into this new hobby would be fun to watch. 6. Do some more dangerous vids with blowing up and destroying things.

When I was helping an older guy trap minnows we'd use what I call box traps idk the actual name of them. It's a wood and fine steel mesh minnow trap that's in the shape of a square. Most had 2 openings but some had 3. They are roughly 2 1/2 feet by 2 1/2 feet. You can trap 3/5 of a 5 gallon pail of minnows in them every week. You gotta make sure the openings are running parallel to the shore because minnows move along the shore. We never used any bait just because there were so many minnows. You can probably find an older bait dealer and ask him if he could sell you a couple traps. Definitely worth a shot

For your critter sheds if needed run to a carpet store that has remnants, here in Lincoln I go to carpet land. I ask them for a deal on whatever junk they want rid of. I then use that carpet and cut a slit in it and screw it in over the door of a livestock shed to block wind but allow them to come in and out freely.

Red-horse Minnow is a colloquial name for the common Red Shiner (Cyprinella lutrensis). And that is in fact what you're catching, red shiners. Redhorse is usually a term used for a carp-like family of fishes, so that can be confusing. You have at least one native to you, the shorthead redhorse, which grows to lengths of 12-18in. As for the bright colors you were talking about, lots of our native non-game fish have bright breeding colors. Red Shiners are no different. They get bright red fins when they are breeding, but look quite plain the rest of the year. We have native fish that are more impressive than any tropical fish, most people just don't know about them.

The river redhorse (Moxostoma carinatum) is a species of freshwater fish endemic to the eastern half of the United States and southeastern Canada. They can range from 10 to 30 inches in length and can potentially reach a weight of more than 10 pounds after maturity. It is typically found in clear, large creeks and rivers, though it is sometimes also found in lakes. They are sometimes speared or caught with hook and line using crayfish or worms as bait.
