Unless you factor in the reboot. Then nero gets a huge step up after they destroyed the dante/vergil characters... especially after what they did to vergil. That, and Nero was always a more believable character to play as. Dante's antics and humor were so damn forced, and Vergil is way too similar to Sephiroth that he was a well established villain trope before he existed. I thought Nero was a great character with more depth than Dante and more originality than Vergil.

+Anthony Vaickus my theory is that Nero is just a normal dude that happened to get vergil's Devil Arm. After Vergil dies in DMC1, he becomes a Devil arm (funny enough, he becomes an ARM, that being Devil Bringer) nero grabs it, receives demonic power-ish. and Yamato Unlocks his full potential-ish². i don't think he's a reincarnation of sparda. if he was, he would have a LOT MORE power.
