Another masterpiece from the bushcraft master! Thanks for this video Dave. This setup gives way more protection from wind and rain than the average tarp & log reflector method. This allows you to keep your fuel under cover and protected as well. The small fire doesn’t require a ton of fuel for the same heating effect. Easy to keep the fire stoked during night too. My wife has brain cancer and had stroke in July so I’m doing my adventuring thru you. When not at work I take care of her so hiking is not an option right now. Thank you and all the other great bushcraft channels for letting me venture out with you. It is a réal blessing to me. On the edge of my seat waiting on the next video!

Humble and funny. Thank you for letting us come along with you as you try things for the first time or improve on something you are developing, Dave! Who else does this? I don't know but we are so glad to have such a good-natured man to bring us along and allow us to see how things work and don't work. lol. As you improve and develop equipment, ( like your bike trailer,) it helps us to understand and troubleshoot along with you and develop critical thinking skills in tight situations with a smile and a chuckle. A good attitude in a man, who doesn't take himself too seriously, is one of the most important survival skills anyone could build and possess, especially when times could be tense like a bugout situation. I am from London, Ontario, Canada, but I feel like we're neighbors. PS. I have to admit that I sometimes just watch you because I need to be around good people and you cheer and brighten my day. We live in a dark world, some more than others, and it is good to know that there is a good neighbor and friend to call on when you need a taste of what the world could and should be. Phil.

Having a heated tarp system will make sleeping so much better. I read where American Indians had a simple fix for ridding the teepee of smoke. They put the teepee up with the small opening at the top, but stopping 2-3 feet from the ground, and a "skirt" (about 4 feet high) inside the teepee two feet from the outer skin and parallel to the outer skin. Wind comes in from ground level under the outside skin, hits the "skirt" and the air is directed upward. The opening at the top creates a draft pulling the smoke out the top. Ingenious, simple and highly effective. They had a fire in the middle of the teepee. I don't know if this method would work with a smaller tarp setup, but for sleeping 6 or more people it is the only way to fly. I wish someone would recreate this setup. My health won't allow it, but I would if I could. Thanks for taking so much of your time making great videos for us. I appreciate it. Happy New Year!

Hi Dave, I love your videos and ideas, I had an idea that if you put two sticks at the back as well, it would give you a frame for your door flap to rest against. Also if you had two more wire hooks on the other side of the hoop you could slit the carbon fiber and run the wire through, no chance of your rope melting. Just an idea. Luke.

Very interesting Sir... a bit complicated in the sense if you wanted to set it up in inclimate weather, and fast, you may have a hard time. But the concept in general is pretty cool. The idea of the central hung "Ring" seems to me that it would have a lot of different applications if one got creative. Like a larger hot tent with the ring as a safety area for the stovepipe coming out of a wood stove, and then tarps running out from the ring. Thanks for sharing Brother... Happy Thanksgiving back at you and yours! Cheers

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. Most of these heated set ups are a little complicated to set up. Thats just the nature of the beast. Theres probably a lot more uses for that ring. Even setting it up over a campfire allows you to have multiple pot hangers! Thanks for watching and I hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving too!

My brother, it's been awhile since I've checked in, and of course you are still amazing, I've exhausted myself in the political arena and needed some relief, so where else would I go ? I know you are all about fun with bushcraft and its part of your charm. For most of your viewers/fans ++ I suspect it is why they tune in and disappear for a moment,ignoring that God awful screech of the city , giving peace in a lifetime of war. Your ingenuity and creative juices flowing like a river and that twang your voice carries, could tame the average beast. You know, I once saw Elvis Presley do an interview one time and they kept asking him many political questions and he replied, " sir Im just an entertainer, I cannot form an opinion on this for public content." I'm not that good of a man and so every once in a while I cross a line that I shouldn't. I hope you forgive me, and continue what you do for us all. I love you my brother, and I so appreciate not only your dedication, but that of your families to allow us to borrow you from time to time, that goes way beyond bushcraft.
@Reallybigmonkey14 жыл бұрын
Brother Joe what you said about Elvis fits perfect. People come here to hear about bushcraft, camping and outdoors. This is where folks can come chill out. Too much drama, politics, drama and controversy in the world now. Sometimes ya just gotta chill. Take care brother Joe

As always one of the most GENUINE KZbin presenters ever. Who else would leave in the bike falling over? Love it! It is true about the fire retardant chemicals, you can buy a spray that will make virtually anything flame retardant, but it turns out they're not good for you. I'd love to experiment with this carbon fiber stuff, looks awesome. Hope you had a good Thanksgiving, and maybe Santa will bring you some good toys!

Hey this is great! it does get cold here in north Georgia and this is an awesome tent. very nice to learn from someone who has done all the trial and error for us. i guess my goal is to watch a few folks' channels and try out a few builds that suit my environment. yours always seem very suitable, functional and easy to assemble even for someone with no experience. and big enough for me and the puppers.. my huskies don't need heat but me and my lab mix... definitely!!! (haha black friday no f****** way !)

Lots of fab ideas and useful techniques. The chimney concept might be important with this video. I picked one up at home depot to use as a leverage bar to loosen lug nuts. It is hard to get around that swishy breeze. It's like the wind did not get any compass training. Possibly use a clear mylar interior door. Remember, sometimes the wild life isn't so wild.
@sheilablake48585 жыл бұрын
Brilliant Dave! I love to see you put your ideas to the test. Wonderful to see the bike in action too. I’m looking forward to seeing the finished article once you’ve put your special touches to it & can spend the night in it. What about a square chimney instead of a round one? That way your material wouldn’t bunch up & be untidy at the top & it might spread around a bit further leaving you some air gaps where you want them? I wouldn’t be sleeping anywhere called ‘snake island!’ Lol. See you on the canoe & your heated shelter soon. Much love 💕
@Reallybigmonkey15 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. I put a lot of thought into a square chimney and that was the original idea but, I found that ring and tried it out. Lots more tweaking to do. Thanks for watching

A hammock would probably be safe on Snake Island.
@SurvivalTheory4 жыл бұрын
I was thinking that the sun reflecting off the floor also contributed to the heat. If you leave an open space on each side of the fire for air flow, it might be beneficial to set up the sides of the shelter facing east and west to maximize any sunlight that would peer in and reflect off the floor. That's one of the most minimal and effective heated shelters I've seen. Excellent job and I look forward to you trying it out on Snake Island. (glad you didn't change the name) Thanks for sharing, keep up the good work!
@Reallybigmonkey14 жыл бұрын
You may be right on that one. Ive noticed on a lot of cold days how warm the sun feels just to the body so Im guessing that reflective material really amps it up! I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for watching
