This is absolutely outstanding. There are so few tutorials for learning the Data Channel in 3ds Max. I’ve occasionally checked them out, but I never felt the urge to dive deeper. You explain it in such an interesting way. I hope you'll create another tutorial in the future on how to use this amazing tool.

Just remember that data channel is dependant on topology, so make sure to add a few edges to those borders so that data channel can grab onto something

Totally makes sense, but I still don't get why the default vale is min: -5000 and max: 5000
