Everyone that has posted a walkthrough for this boss mentions magic. I’m a solid strength build so I really appreciate this. You also mentioned the final chunk of health and how he went more aggressive. Thank you for helping with that also.

It's just spacing and timing. His moveset is intimidating, and seems unpredictable, but most people beat it eventually through trial, and eror. Reach is very nice, because the lower his health gets, the more his aura of flame is. You don't want to get too close, and you definitely don't want to stick around. Other than that, it's just in, and out before he can attack. You don't even have to roll if you time it right. It goes without saying that Flame Resistance is really nice, too. Water Veil makes this a lot safer. He's also weak to Magic Damage. The sprinting, and backstep attack on a Crescent Broadsword just wrecks him with a high enough Magic stat. You don't have to use Spells (Honestly, don't hit him very reliably anyway) just because you chose Royalty.

@@shakybeevessouls I'd say that the Flank&Spank strat is inefficient for the Flamelurker. It doesn't work, so it's a waste of time. You don't have to stay in front of it, you just have to stop trying to get behind it.

PURE MELEE STRATEGY Was running pure STR build (Bastard Sword) and beat him on 2nd try. Was easier than expected as his moveset is quite predictable and limited, especially if you have fought other SoulsBorne bosses with more complex movesets and crazy hitboxes. Throughout the fight, he mainly does a two-hit combo 1)Uppercut, One-arm Smash 2)One-arm Smash, Uppercut For the Uppercut, its easy enough to avoid by just dodge rolling away. For the One-arm Smash, you want to either dodge roll backwards or backstep (depending on your proximity). DO NOT DODGE ROLL TO THE SIDE as you will still be in the hitbox due to the fiery impact. You want to bait out this two-hit combo and punish him after the second hit. Maybe with a two-handed R2. DO NOT GET GREEDY however as he normally retaliates with an Uppercut after you hit him so be prepared to dodge roll away after you land your hit. He also periodically does a Two-arm Smash which does AOE damage in front of him so don't get caught in it. It also ignites the ground, which probably also burns you. If you can get behind him whenever he does this to punish him, good for you. I just avoided it completely as I thought it was abit risky to punish since he recovers from this animation relatively quickly. And of course the most telegraphed and punishable move from him is the pouncing attack. He will growl distinctively, crouch down then spring up and toward you to smash down. You want to roll forward and under him to get behind him (this is easier to do than it sounds) and then you can get a nice clean hit in from behind. And thats really about it, rinse and repeat. As his health goes down he does get more aggressive but his moveset is pretty much the same. BONUS TIP Having Adjudicator's Shield and Regenerator's Ring equipped gives you good constant health regen that allows you to worry less about health and focus on the fight. OVERALL Be patient. Be observant. Punish accordingly. DO NOT GET GREEDY. If you make a mistake, stay calm, find the right time to heal and then continue. DO NOT PANIC DODGEROLL/HEAL. You can do it.

You'll get there dude! 3 times is not alot of deaths, on average I take 8-15 deaths versus tougher bosses and against some legendary ones, ALOT more deaths. Tenacity is key with these games 😎👍

Yes I think it is and so far (I'm up to The Adjudicator having beat all of Latria prior) thats certainly the case for me 👍 a good challenge and satisfying to get right. But the other element that adds to how painful this boss fight is, is the route to get to him....dropping down dodgy rafters each time. Thanks for taking the time to comment man 😎

Oh no...his 2nd phase which he activates once his health bar is at 50% is very like that. Hugely aggressive and constant slams. You can do it, remember just keep distance to bait his leap and slam attack, then counter-intuitively dodge straight forward through his leap. You should end up just behind him land a couple of hits, rinse and repeat. Be patient and only punish that attack, go get it! 👊😎

@@shakybeevessouls after 20 attempts i finally beat him, i didn’t use magic or the flame resistance ring, i had the purple sheild, and i finally found the pattern on the second phase. I was sweating bullets man,but i just took my time more on the second phase, and boom that did it, just waited for him to jump and miss, that feels like the only attack he does where you actually have a window to attack him, so i just played it safe and that did it.

Tell me about it in the NG+! 😫😖😤 Dude I’ve spent around 3 hrs today fighting this fu**er after a long day and resisting sleeping and ignoring my wife’s conversations and trying not to rage because you know the dualsense is still new and kinda expensive! Must level either Strength or Skill dude, and upgrade your weapon. Check which stat your chosen weapon scales with (will be typically one of the aforementioned) and level up said stat, best of luck out there 😎👍

All down to build choices, if you've spread your levelling more broadly rather than my singular approach, there will be a difference. I tend to go all in on one main attribute, such as STR as an example. Glass Cannon build e.g. high damage output with little to less investment in HP 😎👍
