Flamenco Guitar Chord Progressions With Solea Por Bulerias - Tutorial by Kai Narezo

In this video we use Soleá Por Bulería to look at how to take the basic flamenco chord progression and expand it into something longer and a bit more varied. We examine how to use secondary dominant chords within the progression, and then at the end we look at some of the really useful dominant chord voicings (grips, shapes whatever you want to call them) and how to use those in flamenco or any other style of music.

As I research guitars, would you say that it is easier to hold down the strings on a Flamenco Guitar than on a Classical guitar, since Flamenco guitars have a lower action? My mom was a Flamenco Dancer, and I also love classical guitar, so I want to learn both. Thank you again 😊

Great video Kai! Could you recomend a particular model for an experienced steel string player to transition to flamenco? Codoba F7's, F10's, and Kramona Rosa Blanca are easy to find in my area.

Hey Phil - I’m not familiar with the Kramona (Cremona?), but those two Cordobas are both really good options. I’d take the f10 if you can afford it. And if there’s anywhere where you can choose from among a few f10 definitely go and pick one that feels and sounds right to you. But if you don’t have that option they’re still really solid guitars and you probably won’t go wrong.

Por medio is what we call it when we play in A phrygian. Even if we're using a capo (so that it's not actually A anymore) we still call it Por Medio when we use those chord shapes. Cheers, Kai

Well, for learning to play I recommend FlamencoExplained.com! As for viewing to become familiar with flamenco, I recommend watching everything you can in KZbin. And don’t just look for flamenco guitar - search flamenco cante (singing) and baile (dancing) as well. It’s incredibly helpful and inspiring to see the guitar together with the other elements!
