Thaks. In case any viewers only have a steel dtring acoustic but want to give Spanish guitar a whirl , look for ball end nylon strings and save shredding your fingernails no matter ehat length they are. Im using Earnie Ball, nylon ball end strings and you can find a video on installing them. A steel string acoustic usually has a thicker top so your less likely to cause damage but if you have a pick guard leave it in place. Yhe sound wont be as good as a flamenco guitar but its a cheap way to practice and you may need to lower the string action in most cases.

Very helpful, Kai, especially the part about one-mic and the space-out setups. Will try it for recording my non-flamenco EP. BIG SMILE!

@FlamencoExplained26 күн бұрын
Probably too many! And depends a lot on where in the world you are and your budget and all that. Here's part 1 of a three-part blog post I wrote about buying a flamenco guitar - flamencoexplained.com/education/what-flamenco-guitar-should-i-buy-part-1/ Cheers, Kai

I am new to this. Does this mean you can change a classical guitar into a flamenco?
@FlamencoExplained26 күн бұрын
Kind of. Not everybody would agree with me, but the similarities between a classical and a flamenco are much greater than the differences, so very often the answer will be yes. And especially so with a not-so=expensive classical. Cheers, Kai

In front of the sounhole Is a mistake only if you cant play. E.g. It cant control your picking and strumming, as most of youtubers. Also if you have a brighter mic or preamp It could even be beneficial. For subtle arpeggios It Is probably mandatory to take advantage of the proximity effect

I am thrilled to find this excellent channel! I'm wondering if Stephen is open for customers in particular to set up flamenco guitars for customers? I have an early featherweight spruce top flamenco by Lestor Devoe and it definitely needs fretwork amongst other things. If Steven is not accepting customers for such instruments would you have a high recommendation for someone else? thank you!
@FlamencoExplained26 күн бұрын
Hey - Stephen is sometimes open to repair work, so I'd get in touch with him directly. But what part of the world are you in? We may know someone close.

Thans for the video, but please explain why the sequence starts with beat 12? That doesn't make any sense to me.
@OscarBrutenАй бұрын
As far as I understand, beat 12 is the first beat of the dance. Like how 12 is the first hour. It’s functionally the same as beat 1 in other musics.
@2XUBLEАй бұрын
you can start on 1, and accenting the ( 1, 4, 7, 9, 11 )… in spanish flamenco they tend to count the first beat as a 12 pretty much like a clock, but technically the metronome is the origin.

Small membrane condensers are the gold standard for classical and chamber music spot miking. Smaller capules have better bass response (counterintuitively) and tend to be less coloured. If you can afford schöps or dsp, good for you, but any modern cardioid design will work great and just touch up with eq in post. Good luck!

What do I learn next after practising different compas for a while and learning songs. Like how do I take it to the next level and knowing timing wise when to use all the different flamenco techniques I’ve been practising.

Lovely video! So good even if you are not interested in flamenco as it provides a very practical example of chord voicing etc One question: how do you calculate so fast the interval between notes? Every time I have to decipher a chord it takes me a bit of not so quick math to know which notes are included
