4:24 The closest block building on the water has a really nice brewery/pub in the basement. You can go out on the patio and look at the river as you enjoy a beverage. then eat at the Offshore restaurant on the north edge of town.

Used to work with a guy that always steered out of this lock. Hooked-up & hard down, the stern would drag on the wall and swing the head out. People fishing behind the wall would have to run from the wheel wash and sometimes lose their tackle boxes.
@marktwained8 ай бұрын
When I’ve run up there more regularly years back, that was done. I don’t get up there enough nowadays. My captain (that I steered for most as cub pilot), is buried close by. The navigation light downriver from the lock is named in his honor. Capt. Mike Ehler was from that area, and steered me on M/V Ron Shankin. 👍🏻

Been through Lock 12 hundreds of times in my youth. Never realized how the tows left the lock heading down stream. Thanks for sharing/explaining. Love the sound of the turbo. Brings back a lot of memories. Any chance of doing a video going through the Sabula railroad bridge? Always entertaining watching from shore.

Made a few passes by this little town back in the late 70's early 80's. Every time past I would wonder what it would be like to live there. Was so peaceful looking.

Loved it..! It escapes me why the rec boat didn't give you a call. Could have been around your head, in the chamber and on the way down quite a bit earlier. When tows are waiting, I don't dawdle at the lock...

I do love seeing what the view is like from a tow boat bridge in your videos. Now I have a better idea of how ya'all run these monsters. I've passed thousands of you guys over the years running recreational boats on the Middle Ohio. I love the sounds of those big diesels and the superchargers spooling up. I served aboard a US Coast Guard cutter and we had set of big Detroit Diesels in that boat. A tow boat sounds much like we did.

We were shoving 30+ empties northbound, and another company vessel (when I worked at Marquette) was down on one engine. They had 30+ northbound empties as well. We combined the two tows to help them shove. It was 63 total barges, with two boats shoving.

It was an impressive sight. I have copy of tow diagram, but no pictures or videos. It was around 2003, and didn’t have camera or iPhone with me.

I lived a lot of years in Bellevue. I remember in the 93 floods when the only thins you could see of the lock gates was a few inches of the railing. Most of the parking lot was covered too.

What is the air release sound that we hear periodically?
@marktwained3 жыл бұрын
It is throttles when I take it out of gear. It is air release to disengage the clutch from main engines.
