Capt. Is Saturday night on the Boat Still Steak Night.

YES! Most the fellas like steaks at noon. Backwatch guys tend to prefer evening meal steaks. It’s whichever you prefer. 😉👍🏻👍🏻

How much fuel do you guys take on, & how often do you fuel up?
@marktwained3 жыл бұрын
It varies on where we are running. Up north like this area, we doubt usually burn much more than 2,000 gallons a day. On lower Mississippi on hard northbound shove, we can burn 6,000 a day. The boat holds about 100,000 gallons,, but don’t get below 60,000-70,000 as ballast becomes issue., The boat handles best loaded with fuel, but sometimes on Upper Mississippi, in shallower water, we run lighter on fuel purposely for lighter drafts. Usually we take on a minimum of 10,000 gallons. We usually run low on fresh water, before we get low on fuel. Usually fuel every week or two depending on the fuel burn.

New subscriber here... I have a long personal history of wondering what it's like to be on a tug, what it looks like inside , locking thru,.... so many questions! And here is this channel, with a very cool captain with this amazing voice who is answering these questions. I've seen barges on the Ohio and the Miss. Loved watching them from Amtrak this summer on the upper part in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Hope you find answers for your back issues. I'm LOVING this channel! Thank you! 😊

Awesome video Capt Kyle. Love seeing one a "behind the scenes" kinda thing by getting to see a refuel operation. I was glad to see a Coast Guard ANFAC river boat doing their thing. I was supposed to have gotten a billet on one of those boats that worked out of Chattanooga on the Tenneesee, but it fell through. Had I gotten that boat, I would have reupped for a second enlistment. That was a nice day on the river when you shot this video. The boat captain has got some good taste in coffee and cigars. I liked Punch, Romeo Y Juliettas and Macanudos myself. Hope your back is doing better.

Hey man, I love your vids. It would be awesome if you could make a video sometime on how pleasure boaters/fisherman should interact with barge traffic.

I would love to see the engine rooms and mechanicals on the boats.
@bobbybecker64353 жыл бұрын
He has posted previous walkthroughs of engine rooms. Some vessels also have a shop area where they can fabricate their own parts if necessary. Engine rooms are usually unbelievably spotless. Check out the list of videos on the channel.

HEY, CAPT. HAVE YOU EVER STEERED WITH THE NEWEST STEERING SYSTEM USING ONE JOY STICK ? IF SO, DIDJA LIKE IT ?
@marktwained3 жыл бұрын
That’s not really anything new. When I was a cub pilot in ‘99 we had those on most vessels. You could switch steering to a little box with joystick with long cord on it. Most of those boats had electric over hydraulic steering. The joystick was rarely if ever used.

The unsung heroes of my river career. I’m always a fan of those fellas, yet I’ve cussed them more than a few times. Haha Seriously, a fresh set of buoys is one of my all time favorite things.
@michaelgarrity60903 жыл бұрын
Capt, your love or hate feelings about Coasties, we get a lot of that. Fishing boat captains hate us when we gig them on safety violations or if they violated some rules relating to fishing regs or we bust someone they know for having been smuggling drugs, but if they are sinking offshore and we help them save their boat or pull them out of the water in the middle of a hurricane after their boat went down, they love us. It's a thin line between love and hate. SEMPER PARATUS
