This was one of my favorite movies growing up. My grandmother taped it for me when I was a toddler and I watched it probably hundreds of times for several years. The story was great for both kids and adults (regardless of gender), with lessons about overcoming the odds through determination and doing what you can for those that you love.

This movie still totally holds up. It was really refreshing to see a young boy in a movie who is kind and hard working. Now a days its impossible to see a lead in a movie like this. Lucas Black's acting was really good in this. He had me tearing up quite a few times.

Nowadays you won't even be able to say boy 😂

i was so happy to find this. as a little girl i was horse crazy and remembered watching this when i was little. its even better than i remember. i wish disney channel still had movies like this. the new ones they show have no meaning to them. they are all about teen girls getting a boyfriend and hannah montana or like camp rock and high school musical. this shows the values of hard work, honesty, and love. and its sad its not all fun and games. its great how he gets money for his grans coffin.

this movie is actually pretty good! I didn't expect it to be that good, kind of cheesy like some other movies but no, it was a lot better than I expected.

I find this clip interesting because Mr Rutherford said Tad would never be a man until he learned to make the hard decisions. And here, Tad is making the hardest decision to stand up to his father and tell him off for his unsavory training methods. Here, he became a man when he listened to his heart and not his father’s wickedness
