@HDD Recovery Services ---- I am completely in awe of the job you did here. This is very advanced and requires a lot of training and experience with both hardware and software, a true Maestro you are. Thanks for sharing.

Dumb question, but is there a reason solder wick can stick to plate when trying to wiggle it around the board with soldering iron (tool) set to 350 degree celsius and flux applied? It just sticks to the board and gets all messy and on your videos it looks completely fine where you just use it to wipe the board without problem.

Iron is not hot enough and the board pulls the heat away and the solder solidifies. Also mix in some better solder before trying to wick the non-leaded solder off the board. The non-leaded has a higher melting point and is just a pain to work with.

Nikita, it could be that ground planes are very big and they take out a lot of heat from the iron. What iron are you using?

@@hddrecoveryservices Tin-lead solder POS-61 (61% tin and 39% lead) + I'm not using heating plate behind board. I'm trying to clear very small space on my broken GPU. I've read that smd components on the board could be attached using different iron which needs higher temperature, so at the end I'm using heating gun and waving in around needed parts for long periods of time.

Is there a way to read out the firmware from the controller and flash it on another controller with an eprom programmer or something like that? I accidently corrupted the firmware of one of my drives i have 4 of the same type. there is no data on it i just want to make it usable again. I tried all phison firmwares that i could find and flash with st tool but nothing works.

Hi Erkin, this time you directly removed the chip without hot air 🙂. Why R studio error correction facility not use here?
@JohnSmith-el5mo3 жыл бұрын
In the old days we did not have hot air station because it was very expensive. He is an old school guy and a pro.

Ranga, for TSOP chips I prefer to use this super low melt mix. Rework hot air station heats up the chip and could cause further issues on bit level eventually. It can be avoided by removing with such low melt mix. R-studio is not a tool for NAND protocol

Are you still doing HDD recovery or have you transitioned to flash only?

I'd say we do 15% flash and 85% drives

I see sometimes when it is not recovering complete files you get a lot of file size of the same number like 512k for 30 straight files.
@hddrecoveryservices3 жыл бұрын
yeah, its running RAW scan so there is going to be lots of junk listed along. If the mix is right, and ECC is done - files should be original size.

It seems that the problem is not in the NAND
@hddrecoveryservices3 жыл бұрын
because the read out is clean? yes and no at the same time. FW for initialization along with translator are in the NAND, so if it boot loops and device comes up with SAFE mode there is not much else that can be an issue. But I do see your point that if the NAND was a clear issue, we would see much more bit errors present. Swap to an identical donor would confirm it, but I didn't have one
