Flash flooding in parts of New Mexico after thunderstorms

Scattered storms have halted traffic and triggered flash flooding in parts of New Mexico on June 19. The National Weather Service says scattered showers and storms are possible again on June 20, with rain chances steadily increasing compared to the overnight hours.

I was on I 40 heading to the Navajo reservation in New Mexico. My brother who's a airline pilot verified on Weather weather system that the pilots used to look at the weather before their flights. He told me there were no storms and I should have a clear path. I was headed for ceremony Under Navajo reservation. We hit a storm like the one you're showing. It shut down I 40 we were able to get off at Gallup New Mexico. Cars were missing motorhomes were taken off the road by the swift water. We were fortunate we were able to get a room at Best Western in Gallup.

That's why they call them flash floods. They really come on fast and sudden. We used to get them in Phoenix all the time before they canaled our entire river system

The Earth is being replenished with much needed water. If we get caught up in it 🤷🏻‍♀️ Anywhere there is "sand" such as Texas, Arizona, etc, the water IS going to build. It can't be soaked up that quickly. I'm thankful 🙏🏻

Sandy and muddy flash flooding, never try to drive through that. You will almost guaranteed get stuck. Not quite the same as river flooding in a residential road covered area, or low clearance bridge. You gonna be digging yourself out even after the water clears.

I have lived in Phoenix for the past 43 years. In all of that time we have rain twice a year, the monsoons. Not this year. The winter of 23 into the spring and summer of 24 has been the year of the clouds. We have clouds every day. Rarely do we have rain but often enough to confuse our desert plants. I'm not complaining we're always happy here to have clouds block the blazing sun. But it's unusual, if we are having clouds here it doesn't surprise me that other places are having floods
