On September 2nd, heavy rains near Primm, NV caused MAJOR flash flooding that crossed I-15, becoming multiple feet deep in spots, flooding vehicles and causing many to become stranded or stalled.

That was insane yesterday. I have driven that route more times than I can count when I was traveling to and from Las Vegas. I have never in all my 67 years seen the I-15 flood like that 😲 Thanks for the great overage 😘

I left Las Vegas (Henderson) at dawn on Sept 1 and passed through Primm shortly after. Las Vegas was dark with clouds but the road west on I-15 was sunny and clear. Apparently, that didn't last.

Shows the incredible importance of the water cycle. All that water had to be evaporated from the ocean, lifted high in the atmosphere, carried inland by winds and then dropped as rain over the entire area. That's one hell-of-a lot of water coming just from evaporation when you think about it. And what you're seeing doesn't include all the water that has soaked into the ground first.

I'm guessing folks don't realize/know that that stretch of I-15 (Yates Well Road to State Line) goes right through a lake bed (Ivanpah Lake) that's normally dry.

People don't realize how dangerous this was. I have seen out there where the water just flows out over the freeway with no notice. There was no ravine or nothing under the road. Just a flash flood of water come pouring across from the mountains. I have seen cars & vans floated away off the freeway. It is an act of God. And then you have those who still insist on driving through it at 80-90 MPH.

What time was this? We were there September 2, we witnessed heavy rain going into Vegas about 4:30pm. We didn’t see flooding or traffic stopping.

We drove into the Rio Hotel parking at exactly 5:11pm. Wow had we been going a little slower we’d had been caught in that traffic. Thank you!

That is one of our problems creekbeds made great wagons trails once upon a time a go. Some of those developed into roads. Now we get to spend money fixing the stream beds that Pershing and Eisenhower used as roads during the 20's on their mechanized trek across the country. Lt. Eisenhower then.
