ok personally I interpret this animatic as being Benrey protecting Gordon from his own fate: like they were childhood friends but Gordon has no memory of them as they were purposely erased (by G-man I guess?) as it influenced the destiny he had to accomplish (see half-life 2). I love the idea of Benrey perpetually struggling between protecting Gordon from his fate and letting things go the way they're supposed to. And now I'm thinking that would make a good fanfic concept... so yeah very good animatic very inspiring !! that's so cool on each frame they are very expressive I can easily imagine their feelings

Little moments in the animatic that lit up my animation brain/brain in general: 0:24 the detail of benrey being big enough to tip the island gordon is standing on just by leaning on it emphasising just how dangerous he could be without even trying 1:09 HAHAHAHAHA THE RADIAL BLUR 1:20 when gordon gets grabbed, i had to rewind and rewatch that because i loved the slow-in and out of that hand movement 1:30-1:31 because benrey does that little head tilt. subtle acting moments are my absolute favourite 1:37 when gordon rolls his eyes and even his mouth moves with the action 1:41 benrey winking hehehehe 2:02-2:04 i just think it's neat 2:19 holy HECC this angle and the shadows woahohohO 2:20 the banging in time to the beat mm yes chef's kiss 2:22-2:25 did the biggest number on my animation brain. i don't know what it is, just the way his eyelids spring back open and his eyes are shining just. I've just, been pouring over every frame of this. I really wanna write the fic for this from Gordon's perspective, how he beats on the bubble, and slides to his knees, arms at his sides. How he feels so damned *conflicted*, cycling through alarm and terror and horror and empathy and compassion and maybe a little bit of shyness, a bit of tenderness, some vulnerability. Also I am very much eyeballing that red and blue sweet voice and thinking of rhymes. Red and blue like police sirens, means don't want to end it like this, or somethin. Splattered reds and blues, it's always just been us two. Red spotted with blue, this won't be something I can undo. Aaaagh, excitement abounds.
