I recently started getting "into" flashlights primarily due to you videos. I purchase my first, the Sofirn SC31Pro then a couple of C01's (one in deep red) and a C01s. Then it was on to the Skilhunt E3a and the Olight i3t eos in titanium. Can't wait to see what tickles my fancy next, maybe I'll get a Convoy S2+ host and really befuddle my head by attempting a custom build. Anyway, thanks for the encouragement. Although most of the lights you review don't meet my needs, as soon as I see them post I just have to watch them to see what kind of silliness you throw in to make them so much fun.

I'm still a little mad that you can't just 2c from off and then 2c again for constant turbo. It should be accessable anyhow I reach top ramp.

I agree and have argued the toss. You can set max ramp as turbo but it jumps from 2000 lumens to 7000 so it is no longer a smooth ramp!!! It's hard to ramp to around 1800 lumens as you can slightly miss your target and end up at 7000!

Well yes and no, they target more the "flashaholic" users and not so much actual tactical users. It's also a technical thing because obviously the light becomes longer when you add all that tech plus you can't have the magnet in the back. But there are plenty of high power lights with a tail switch out there

Tail switches are often limited by current. I had a hard time finding one to take 5a (it was rated for 1a...). they also don't last as long as an e-switch, but repair is easy if you got a hakko iron. I actually would prefer simple easy to repair, high efficiency high cri lights, with the bulk to shed heat, with no crazy turbo memes, maybe just reverse polarity and overheat protection...

Looks great. But what ive always been looking for is a light like this with 5500K, a decent lumen output and a high Color Rendering Index. Its always either too warm (high cri) or too cold (low cri)

Agree. I'd like to see the button for on/off/ramping/turbo and everything else on a bluetooth app that sits over the lockscreen on your phone. Having to click 50 times to set the thermal cutoff is pretty shit in 2021 FFS.

I'm a photographer, I really like the look of this, but 2 big issues would stop me buying it: 4500k is too warm to use as a fill in daylight. Midday sun is closer to 5600k. How could they get this wrong when it's aimed at photographers?! Sure you can add a blue filter, but then the CRI would be reduced. Stepping down is a no-no, how can you use it as a light source without constant output? It could still be used on lower levels I suppose, but the flickering could also be an issue. And the price is too high.

I believe the colour temp rises when used in conjunction with the included white diffuser. My professional Jetbeam fill light was only 450ish lumens so the NOV-MU has power to burn and can sustain around a 1000. This and the 219B destroy the Jetbeam fill light too for natural looking pictures. No violet or blue hues at all. The ctmri value of 5700 LED's is usually pretty low too compared to 2000-4500K and good 5000K bins.

I think price is mostly due to the LUME driver. The 21 LEDs cost $10 total on their own. Host maybe $30. Mine was $80. FF refuses to sell parts, and its known for blocking buyers... so yes, price is too high. I wish more would complain

I have a question on the flicker in the lowest output of this light. In your comment on BLF, you said there is noticeable flicker on the lowest output. The flicker is also mentioned in your recent E12R review. In another review of E12R by Flashlight Enthusiast, the flicker is discussed. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4anknuPqsqGl6s The review says that if you increase the minimum output level to 3, the flicker is not much an issue. What is your opinion on this issue? Do you think increasing the minimum output to 3 or 4 of 150 resolve the flicker problem? Thanks!

The flicker is present at lower levels not just at the lowest level, noticeable to around 20 lumens or so but it doesn't effect the camera like PWM can. I raised the floor but it still flickered. You'd have to raise it to around 20 lumens or so, maybe more depending on how perceptible the flicker is to you.

Great review as always but... What makes you say this is a "photography flashlight"? According to the official specs, the CRI for Nichia E21A R9080 is only 92 and other versions have a much lower one. A CRI of minimum 95 is recommended for photography and video. And CRI is not all, tint also matters, "pure" white light without any green, magenta, yellow or blue shift is hard to get. But most of all, the light has to be soft, quality achieved using a large diffuser. There is also the aspect of flicker when shooting video. There's a reason why dedicated film and photo professional lights are so expensive, it is hard to get all the qualities mentioned above. So, a flashlight good for taking phone pictures? Maybe. A light for pro photos? No way.

It measures more than 92. You can see various test results on BLF. Also it is not just about CRI. What is most important is the R9 value. The E21A has a R9 of about 90 whereas other 90CRI like the 219C, Samsung LH351D and Cree 90CRI have R9 values of about 50. That's where the biggest difference in color rendering comes from
