I should know, dear old Dad was 40 year Coldstreamer...completed his service as Band Sergeant Major in 1975. Badly injured in Guards Chapel flying bomb incident 1944 and completed service which began as a boy soldier aged 16.

Right on Michael Riordan...nobody has military bands like the British. Several years ago, I had the opportunity to see the massed bands of the Royal Marines in London. Amazing.

David Drake...the salutes are part of the tradition of the Trooping The Colour.

Hallo, hoe heet de 2e mars die gespeelt wordt? Ik heb deze mars vaak gehoord tijdens prinsjesdag, door verschillende korpsen.

I've never noticed before but why are the bands saluted?
@gb0rthwick4 жыл бұрын
They don't, it's the Royal salute given as the Queen is right behind the band. Given any later because of the noise of the band, it wold not be heard ;)

Too bad the band has to sidestep the horse shit.

They don't. They march through it. Marching on clean tarmac is a new fairly recent experience for some of these ancient regiments.
