Lol! It was a good movie, but not that good. When it was in theaters, they ran it untill they were practically giving away tickets (after two weeks) and here it is. It was well done, but not the skull shirted vigilante long time fans wanted. Thomas Jane didn't fit the character as well as John Bernthal has and the movie was just a glimpse into the Punisher series and reminded fans more of a Quentin Tarantino movie than the Punisher. This may as well have been another shoot 'em up movie.

This film was extremely underrated, I remember when I was a kid and it came out the critics bashed it to hell. It was very dark for anything marvel related at the time. I really loved how they made all these fly by hitmen have unique stand out qualities, this guy with the guitar and the Russian. Not to mention Thomas Jane portrayed The Punisher perfectly.
@crashfan9997 Жыл бұрын
It was ahead of its time. One year before Batman Begins. Similar story with Timothy Dalton's Bond movies, they were too dark for the 80s but they were awesome gritty movies. At times I feel like Nolan got lucky.

The two hitmen were the cherry on top of this fantastic movie. The idea of a contract killer that composes a ballad for every one of his victims in implausible but awesome. Then the Russian who only kills with his bare hands and insists that the fight be "fair". I love the part where Castle goes for his hideaway gun and the Russian smashes the barrel with a dumbbell. Not only does it perfectly illustrate the hitman's professional philosophy but it's a great joke/reversal on the Chekhov's Gun principle.

They tried to, but Jane pulled out because he didn’t like the direction the sequel was going in and the fact that the studio cut the budget and turned down a director he thought was a great fit. These scene is really the best. Start from Harry, He is so Cult. Sing his song to his target. And his chase is done without Fancy quotes or movement. Just close the gap with vehicles, Disable target and perform a point-blank killing attempt. This killer not joking around, It's like he do it with style and efficiency. But even so, The Punisher's quite too hard to be taken down. This is what makes these scene awesome. Cold blood Killer's hardest target. Is the professional retired marines himself.

Yea, I always felt the same way. Like heck wasn't messing around, nor was this his first rodeo, and I always thought lore wise he was a much more efficient hitman than the Russian

I asked (one long standing Punisher writer) Steven Grant on twitter one year which punisher movie he thought had the best portrayal. He said. Thomas Jane. The writing was horrible of course but that wasn't Thomas's fault. Thomas Jane was the closest to who he thought punisher should be.

0:47 The continuity error with the cigarette is great. He puts his cigarette between his ring and pinkie fingers, then it appears back in his mouth and then back between his fingers without time to make the switch. Also the amount of cuts it took to do that was too fast and a little jarring, imo.

By far one of the best superhero films I have ever watched especially character where you can't help but constantly feel for him and what he's going to do next. Like the theme itself is inspiring. It makes you feel REALITY. It makes you feel for how justice isn't always there and sometimes you gotta take things into your hands. Such an underrated actor and movie as well. Like I honestly can't believe that at the time, this movie got so much undeserved hate. Like Thomas Jane played him perfectly, the emotion, the voice, EVERYTHING. Even the soundtrack itself, is amazing and even as I'm writing this I'm listening too it. 5/5. This has been a movie I've always wanted to watch since childhood since I've always seen clips of it, and loved it and I finally got the chance to watch it, like is it just me or are superhero movies from the 2000s always good and way better than the ones there are now. Like this movie relates to everything there is today, especially the justice system there is today and of course whats happened with pandemic and the war we have today where the justice system and governments simply don't listen too you. Like this just shows how amazing Stan Lee's creativity was to make superhero like these, not only that but the Punisher is the only superhero or anti hero you could say, that doesn't even have powers and still puts up a great fight and takes down everyone with just pure skill, talent, and everything he's got. Like if you look at most Marvel heroes and villains, they mostly have superpowers or something, but him, he was just a average person like us, who served, became elite, and had to take things into his own hands because of how the justice system doesn't always help you, or punish those. You gotta take things into your own hands. There's honestly so much to say about the film and I don't really want to spoil it since its just amazing. Like I'm speechless, and out of words to say because there's just so MUCH to say about it and how to describe it. You really gotta watch it for yourself to understand it, feel it, and everything.

You're not alone. The Punisher, The Dark Knight trilogy and the Spider-Man Raimi trilogy are my favourite superhero movies and they're all 2000s movies too (except for The Dark Knight Rises in 2012 but that's still a favourite).
