Lol! It was a good movie, but not that good. When it was in theaters, they ran it untill they were practically giving away tickets (after two weeks) and here it is. It was well done, but not the skull shirted vigilante long time fans wanted. Thomas Jane didn't fit the character as well as John Bernthal has and the movie was just a glimpse into the Punisher series and reminded fans more of a Quentin Tarantino movie than the Punisher. This may as well have been another shoot 'em up movie.

This film was extremely underrated, I remember when I was a kid and it came out the critics bashed it to hell. It was very dark for anything marvel related at the time. I really loved how they made all these fly by hitmen have unique stand out qualities, this guy with the guitar and the Russian. Not to mention Thomas Jane portrayed The Punisher perfectly.
@crashfan9997
@crashfan9997 Жыл бұрын
It was ahead of its time. One year before Batman Begins. Similar story with Timothy Dalton's Bond movies, they were too dark for the 80s but they were awesome gritty movies. At times I feel like Nolan got lucky.

@@crashfan9997I still can’t believe Batman Begins was THAT early. If it’s anything that’s ahead of it’s time, it’s Nolan’s dark knight trilogy - it literally changed the game of the superhero cinema genre.

When this film came out I remember it being slammed for NOT being dark enough. At the time I hadn't read many Punisher comics, but having read them now.. yeah, this ain't Punisher. It's an alright goofy action movie, but it doesn't deserve to be a Punisher movie.

The two hitmen were the cherry on top of this fantastic movie. The idea of a contract killer that composes a ballad for every one of his victims in implausible but awesome. Then the Russian who only kills with his bare hands and insists that the fight be "fair". I love the part where Castle goes for his hideaway gun and the Russian smashes the barrel with a dumbbell. Not only does it perfectly illustrate the hitman's professional philosophy but it's a great joke/reversal on the Chekhov's Gun principle.

To be fair Bernthal did say that Jane was a real inspiration for him when doing the role. My only gripe with the Jane version (which was also a gripe with Stevenson’s as well) was that they didn’t film it in New York. They tried to, but Jane pulled out because he didn’t like the direction the sequel was going in and the fact that the studio cut the budget and turned down a director he thought was a great fit. So they replaced him with Ray Stevenson and the sequel morphed into Punisher: Warzone. If you haven’t already seen it, check out the short fan film, “Dirty Laundry”. Jane reprised his role as The Punisher. That’s the closest we’ll ever get to a sequel with his version of the character.

Harry: "okay, as a one time deal, I'll do the song for only $2000 extra." Mafia: "We really just need him dead." Harry: "Okay, I'll do it for free." Mafia: "Why do you want to write a song so bad? All we want is some murder for hire." Harry: "Look, I need to do the song okay. It's part of my whole schtick." Mafia: "Okay, you can do the song if you're not gonna charge extra for it." Harry: "Great, one song coming right up." Mafia: "And you're gonna kill him too, right." Harry: "...yeah, kill him too... right."

True, but John Wick is not the villain, he is the hero or an anti-hero and his antagonists also make those mistakes. Also in this film, a Punisher is shown as a policeman with training but who is still a mortal human, not a deus-machine.

Harry Heck was a throwaway character in the Marvel Knights run, and I wish he had gotten more screentime in this film as he was one of the most interesting characters in the movie. Hell, I'd even watch a Harry Heck movie where he performs various hits, and is only the hero because the other characters are SO much worse.

@Mark Twain ah makes sense. Thing I always liked about how he played the role was the way he really gave the feeling like he was getting his ass kicked and would still would find the way to fight through and overcome. The fight against the Russian is seemed like they were both dead from the war

Second movie is more like Punisher's Max comics and is more gore and dark and has Micro and Soup, who are loved comic characters, but this one is funnier and better as movie, this has better filmed action scenes and the narrative is better, this one is based in the "My lovely neighbours" comic saga, that is more for all public and with more humor, but without the Punisher's imitators secta that appears in the comic (that would be awesome for a secuel) There are different styles. I love the second one, but I also think this one is better movie

These scene is really the best. Start from Harry, He is so Cult. Sing his song to his target. And his chase is done without Fancy quotes or movement. Just close the gap with vehicles, Disable target and perform a point-blank killing attempt. This killer not joking around, It's like he do it with style and efficiency. But even so, The Punisher's quite too hard to be taken down. This is what makes these scene awesome. Cold blood Killer's hardest target. Is the professional retired marines himself.

By far one of the best superhero films I have ever watched especially character where you can't help but constantly feel for him and what he's going to do next. Like the theme itself is inspiring. It makes you feel REALITY. It makes you feel for how justice isn't always there and sometimes you gotta take things into your hands. Such an underrated actor and movie as well. Like I honestly can't believe that at the time, this movie got so much undeserved hate. Like Thomas Jane played him perfectly, the emotion, the voice, EVERYTHING. Even the soundtrack itself, is amazing and even as I'm writing this I'm listening too it. 5/5. This has been a movie I've always wanted to watch since childhood since I've always seen clips of it, and loved it and I finally got the chance to watch it, like is it just me or are superhero movies from the 2000s always good and way better than the ones there are now. Like this movie relates to everything there is today, especially the justice system there is today and of course whats happened with pandemic and the war we have today where the justice system and governments simply don't listen too you. Like this just shows how amazing Stan Lee's creativity was to make superhero like these, not only that but the Punisher is the only superhero or anti hero you could say, that doesn't even have powers and still puts up a great fight and takes down everyone with just pure skill, talent, and everything he's got. Like if you look at most Marvel heroes and villains, they mostly have superpowers or something, but him, he was just a average person like us, who served, became elite, and had to take things into his own hands because of how the justice system doesn't always help you, or punish those. You gotta take things into your own hands. There's honestly so much to say about the film and I don't really want to spoil it since its just amazing. Like I'm speechless, and out of words to say because there's just so MUCH to say about it and how to describe it. You really gotta watch it for yourself to understand it, feel it, and everything.
