Forever my favourite Selina Kyle/Catwoman, no one has embodied both sides of her so perfectly. Michelle really portrayed Selina's spiral from a repressed, broken woman, to a dangerous, seductive, unhinged villainess with an undercurrent of vulnerability and a desire for a happy life.
@evermore-15744 жыл бұрын

Notice how the camera isnt moving around like crazy and theres very little cuts to different angles. The shot is held much longer than in movies today. Now its so annoying seems like they try and get as many angles and jump cuts into a scene when only 2 would of been necessary. The constant moving of the camera makes it hard for our brains to absorb what were seeing and really feel like were there. Like the part wheres shes drinking the milk. I love all the symbolism going on in this particular scene. I think this scene alone makes the entire movie for me. Definitely my favorite Batman movie specifically for her portrayal of cat woman in this movie. The first one was good, but Michelle just sells this movie for me. Danny was amazing, too, but Michelle is just the entire story for me. You see her as meek and frail, then this scene where she finds her inner darkness and destroys her toys (I believe this represents self destruction of her innocence, or perhaps an allusion to rape because she feels her innocence was forcibly taken from her). It’s a really powerful moment and really sets up her character development perfectly
@unknownstranger68754 жыл бұрын
I never noticed that before, about the toys. I do know that the light pink in her apartment is supposed to represent her repressed femininity. And the stitches in her costume, it represents how she's stitching herself back together after being torn apart. When you see the stitches start to rip open as the film goes on, that's her coming undone all over again.

It was a lot more than that. The perfume ad reminded her of her sleazy boss who tries to come across like a decent person when he's actually anything but. Not to mention the said ad's scenario after her rebirth. Did anyone notice her breathing intensified during the said add? He'd just callously shoved her out a window over something stupid, acting like it was an accident later on and then the perfume ad shoves a date scenario with her and said boss in her face? Now , I'm not a shoot the messenger person, but I can understand that being her trigger. After years of being pushed around and just taking it she finally snapped. Yes, the destruction showed her symbolically shedding her innocence, but I think the perfume ad was the last straw and she became hell-bent on revenge as well. I can relate to this scenario for many reasons and have a similarly socially awkward past. Amazingly though, I haven't become criminally insane ...yet. Not that I want to, but I've dealt with my share of being pushed around over being too generous and vulnerable, quite often with the wrong crowd and sometimes I too wanna snap! Just more food for thought and my take on the scene.

Also because she was meant to be “crazy” before she put on the suit. It was SUPPOSED to be a breakdown. They don’t let Harley breakdown she’s supposed to be sexy whiles she’s crazy. It’s called bad writing and no character development.

She was like, “Mama, what’s wrong?!” She was trying to figure out why her mother was acting the way she was. She freaked her out that’s why she got up on the mantle to get out of the way! I think she could sense her Mama was having a psychotic episode but didn’t know WHY. She just waited patiently for her to have her temper tantrum and would then go to her for comfort.

I do too; that's the one thing I feel Tim missed out on with this movie. He never really fully decided if she was supernatural or just lucky and he ended up splitting it down the middle. Honestly it makes more sense if she was supernatural. Largely due to the fact she admitted she was jealous of Miss Kitty and her freedom in her first apartment scene. That shoulda been her Faustian moment of no return, as dark as it is. I'll give the 2004 Catwoman movie credit they tried hard but they ruined it so badly. It's a shame we never got a movie in the 90's that coulda had Michelle and explained it more.

I found out in 2004 Catwoman movie when Halle berry went to the old lady’s house and the old lady revealed to her that she(Halle) was a Catwoman,the lady showed her pics of different Catwoman and there was a pic of Selina Kyle (Michelle Pfiefer)amongst them. So I’m guessing it was supernatural.

Nobody heard about it in the 90-s, nor in 1890's, nor in 1890's BC. Kipling, when he was writing his "The cat that walked by himself" also dind't hear about it. People who were domesticating wild cats in prehistoric times didn't hear about it. And - strange thing - they gave milk to the cats, and they loved it and came for more. I'm not saying that's the best food for cats. I'm just saying - cats always ate it, and folklore, songs and fairy-tales mention that a lot. So you shouldn't blame the film for taking advantage of this image. Wouldn't be that symbolic if she fed them Whiskas and ate it herself.

Quick History Lesson: Actually not all cats are lactose intolerant. All cats can drink milk just fine when young and then as they grow older they produce less and less of the chemical that can break down milk sugars. Same thing happens in humans and dogs. However some cats retain full levels of that chemical production so they are fine to drink milk. Also same for humans and dogs. The main problem with milk is that the milk sugars are hard to break down without very specific bacteria, or that one enzyme we make as youngins, so milk sugars tend to stay in large intestinal tract and fester if not properly broken down and absorbed ahead of time in small intestines. Thus the diarrhea (amongst other possible problems) in lactose intolerant be they humans or cats or dogs. Never a good idea to have anything "fester" anywhere. That helpful bacteria that helps with milk sugars lives in the milk itself by the way. Also milk has been fed to cats for many many years in history of domesticated cats and they were fine. As were dogs and humans. That is because they were fed natural unpasteurized milk, or raw milk, with that helpful bacteria present and active. And even fermented version of milk like kefir were long a staple of human and their pet diets. Those naturally have bacteria that can break down the milk sugars and help them get absorbed so they are usually completely fine and safe for cats. And humans and dogs. You get the point. In some cases fermented milk was even prescribed as medicine for cats and dogs. Pasteurized milk is a lot more common today though. Finding properly handled raw milk is harder then ever. And pasteurization kills most of the bacteria, both harmful and helpful, leaving behind the milk fats, proteins and more importantly the milk sugars which are the cause of the problem. Both in cats and humans as well. And dogs. And really anyone who consumes cow milk. Goat milk is safer in that it has less of those sugars. And sure harmful bacteria can also fester in milk if it is not properly stored and cleaned, BUT in very very recent history (less the 200 years) it just became easier and more importantly cheaper for milk providers to pasteurize or even "ultra paustrize" (which kills all bacteria bad and good and actually any good components really), which makes it a safe (but also kinda risky) substance in that it is safe to drink but may cause problems like lactose intolerance after prolonged and regular consumption. A kind of "drink this cheaply cleaned milk so you may never drink milk again" situation. It has been slightly over 100 years for paustarazion to become the common practice and even legally required in many places. This was due to large demand and need for milk. As urban areas grew the need for more milk could not be sustained as you could not keep large enough cow population within city limits. That also created a health hazard in where it was actually very hard to keep the milk drinkable until it could be transported to the cities. A lot of horrible diseases became widespread due to improper handling, storage and transportation of raw milk. Chief amongst them tuberculosis, brucellosis, and scarlet fever. Thus quite a few places passed laws in around 1910's on pausterazion as it extended the safety and shelf life of milk long enough for it to be transported and sold in large cities. At the time long term health concerns over pasteurized milk were not researched and we just knew that short term it was safe to drink. As a result of overly pasteurizing the milk and getting rid of all the bacteria in it that could help with those milk sugars, people cats and dogs, all animal who regularly drink cow milk are then at more risk to develop lactose intolerance as they age and stop naturally producing the enzymes needed to break down milk sugars without help of bacteria, as they could when they are kids. And as pasteurization becomes more and more the norm, with raw milk only being available in very specific area where you can have it fresh and properly handled, so do levels of lactose intolerance rise amongst all three species mentioned in this post. But that is the price we pay for cheap and in short term much safer milk that has a long shelf life that doesn't have to be so carefully stored or so quickly consumed before it goes bad. So yes many more cats are lactose intolerant today. So are dogs. And humans. It is not a hoax and you SHOULD be careful about giving your cat milk. Actually letting your kitten drink kefir (fermented milk) is much more healthy and then as they age make sure that if you see signs of developing lactose intolerance (like diarrhea) you immediately stop giving them things with lactose to prevent future problems. And if they never develop such signs know that they are one of the chosen that are lucky enough to be able to keep their ability to drink milk for years to come. Moral of the story is it's not universally bad to feed your cat dog or human that sweet sweet milk. Just, as they age, make sure to keep a lookout for signs of lactose intolerance developing. And kefir is better than milk. And milk is better than pasteurized milk. And pasteurized milk is better than Ultra Pasteurized milk. And we still have no idea on the effects of homogenizing milk and if there are any effects at all. I guess we will know many years in the future when significant amount of people drank homogenized milk over their lifetimes. It's an ongoing science experiment we are doing to ourselves. And the pets living closest to us (cats and dogs). But yes you will notice Quick History Lesson Over. P.S. Much worse then milk could ever be is "sugar-free" stuff. The sugar free stuff replaces natural or added sugars with sugar alcohols like xylitol which are toxic to cats. Can cause coma or death. Onion is also toxic to cats. Can cause anemia or blood vessel bursting. An these effects may not be immediately apparent. Milk on the other hand will let you know if it becomes a problem. If your cat (or dog) is developing lactose intolerance then they will either have diarrhea or/and vomit closely after having milk. Just make sure to pay attention in case it happens. If it doesn't then your cat is generally good with milk and you can continue feeding them milk.
