low sense of self worth that collapsed into self-hatred through the reincarnation resurrection. Wrecking her things symbolizes that self hatred just as much as it is a metaphor for the reborn identity of a character that is neither villian or hero. if she loved herself & carried self-worth she might not have destroyed her sanctuary but instead simply altered the aesthetic of her home. yes it is sad to watch the demolition of childhood playfulness that represented a lonesome melancholy to it, as a way to cope with the harsh world, her nagging mom, no friends, & her morose & unfulfilled reality; but in order for the audience to enjoy the movie & scene, this childhood playfulness destruction has to be replaced with a hybrid feline/human variation of the mischievous playfulness of childhood, which the Catwoman embodies in an ambiguous manner

You've got to admit, among the villains here, they did a great job creating Shreck. He was this Catwoman's PERFECT foil. She went from timid and shy to mad and revenge seeking, while Shreck was always the manipulative puppet master seeking to rule Gotham. It was like they were two perfect adversaries made for each other 😁 Equally dangerous and menacing but each in their own way

Imo, she's got what it takes, the only thing that could ruin it is the script and directing. For example, Halle Berry made an outstanding Catwoman (at least in my opinion) but I can see how the script and directing really brought down the quality. Though, I love that movie with all my heart lol.

They honored this scene in Returns. They also honored the Catwoman claw circle to open the glass in the last episode of Gotham, which was from Batman the Animated Series. Catwoman did that in her very first episode on that show. The writers of Gotham are in their 30’s like I am. We grew up with this movie and this cartoon.

This iteration of Catwoman really worked. Not a cat burglar like the others but vengeful, playful, crazy, sensual, and attacked on instinct like a cat. Catwoman wasn't logical or practical or else she would've chosen a different attire and weapon. You need to be half-crazy to walk around in public at night in a thin pleather catsuit, heeled boots, and a whip. Michelle Pfeiffer made it work.

Nostalgia effect. Look up other movies released the same year and you'll find just as much junk as today. Like someone else mentioned, this has more to do with Tim Burton, than the era. Modern day directors, like Denis Villeneuve, still make stuff equalling or better than this level of quality

@@hurmur9528 Honestly, when it comes to A catwoman, there's a few ways she could be portrayed and there's not necessarily one right way to do it (unless we're talking about a specific character). Imo, Halle Berry's Catwoman was best, the script and directing could have been better; though, I still love the movie. Halle actually acted like a cat and had cat-like powers- which was amazing and made sense for her character. This Catwoman...doesn't really have powers it seems (maybe 9 lives and cat empathy), but she's an acrobat and has a 'cat-like' personality. Hope that made sense.
