She's simply saying that she loves a woman not being reduced to either eyecandy or just a love interest. I might not be a female, but if I were one, I'd grow pretty tired too of seeing only that side of my gender being shown. Stay positive, it's a good thing that there's female superhero representation; In other ways than a sexy piece of ass or something else to serve the male mc's rhetoric. DC really did a good job on this movie.
@boblob35095 жыл бұрын
I don't think women had it that bad when it came to female portrayal back in the day... I mean look at Ripley in Alien, her role didn't feel forced like they were trying to push a movement/agenda, her character felt organic and authentic. An everyday civilian caught up in a dire situation who happened to be female, who was able to overcame a ton of obstacles through out the movie. "Female empowerment" was not the primary goal of the film, but it came off as a by-product of the character herself. They didn't try to make her the female equivalent of a man if that makes any sense. Ripley still had to deal with the vulnerability of being a woman whilst pushing herself to the limits to survive. I understand that for 'Wonder Woman', the female cast are meant to exemplify extraordinary athletic and strength capabilities in the film, so to have "man like" qualities is understandable in this film. However, when films try to forcefully push a female lead role as one who is female basically acting like a male, disregarding their feminine qualities that make them unique in the first place and taking on male qualities for the film role simply to be seen as independent, this is what is annoying. Most feminine qualities are pretty admirable, so i dont see the problem with keeping at least a few in... Also, there is also that fine line of 'double standards', which seems to mean that "If it happen to us, then it should happen to you and we won't care for it". This is the argument and case for such movies such as 'Magic Mike', an erotic movie about male strippers basically dancing it up and showing off their bodies. If we really want to help and understand each other, we gotta empathise but for some reason we all lack that ability. Sorry for the unnecessary paragraph just wanted to type what was on my mind lol

Maybe they will make TV show set on Themyscira island with all these amazons? Who knows...they will need GOT gigantic budget for that though...I feel like the greek mythology background behind all these amazons and Themyscira itself is too vast and rich for live action experience, because of so many stories that need to be told and can be told! Lots of greek God's backgrounds, lots of individual amazons backgrounds (Most specifically Hippolyta, Artemis and Antiope!)...i feel like live action wouldn't make it justice! Only many many episodes of Themiscyra show will do! I wouldn't mind this Xena-esque kind of TV show! It could be great opportunity to get Lucy Lawless to play one of the amazons (Maybe she could play TV version of Hippolyta, since she is quite old now to play lesser amazons! Or she could play Hera herself! Now wouldn't that be quite ironic?! Lol)

Its kinda similar to what they are doing with Krypton now! I suggest the same concept with the same origin story kind of background! So call the show - "Themyscira" (Similar to how another is called Krypton!) and focus on the lore of the island without living it! Voila you got yourself another interesting and vibrant TV show with intriguing ancient Gods background and amazon origin stories! You can even exploit each individual amazon story like that by explaining how each individual amazon was born, raised, who trained her, where she got her powers etc...The actresses will have to be different though or they could use CGI to make Hippolyta look younger as well as other amazons!
@Summon2567 жыл бұрын
And i also forgot about Gotham as well! See? Thats why "Themyscira" origin series is needed! To complete the "trinity", since Bats and Supes have their own origin series! So needs Wondy now! If we all still worked on the land, this might be the case. Sadly, that period of time was marred by sickness and starvation- I think that if human society were to live a more Spartan lifestyle, and have both men and women serve in to army for at least a year; would already massively improve health and fitness for all. Random fact, Gal Gaddot served in the Israeli army. She's pretty cool!

as a muscular girl who's struggled with body image issues and "looking too buff" for a long time, i loved (FINALLY) seeing a movie with women who actually look like they can kick ass. but it still kinda rubbed me the wrong way that all the really strong looking women were just extras there for like 15 seconds and the female leads with all the screen time were still stick thin. don't mean to take anything away from the intense training everyone did, just kinda seems like this movie was like "hey look we're body positive and embrace muscular women as long as we don't have to see you for longer than 5 minutes!"
@PaulSchober4 жыл бұрын
Well to be fair, I bet the film-makers would have LOVED it if Gal Gadot was a little more muscular. I mean I didn't hear anyone complaining about Linda Hamilton getting all Amazon for Terminator 2. I recall nothing but praise for that dedication.
@liliminimaya62214 жыл бұрын
I agree so much
@gameformation21004 жыл бұрын
I don't think you should blame people for not wanting to see muscular women on screen. Well muscles are a masculine feature. So is an Adam's apple, deep voice, tall height and beard. If you're a girl and you like being tall and muscular and having deep voice then fine. More power to you. But men are programmed to be attracted to females with feminine features. If I as a male start wearing lipstick and makeup and high heels and maybe get a boob job then it is my choice. But then I can't expect women to like me, can I? I don't understand why some women think that it is a weakness to be feminine.
@kristallization4 жыл бұрын
@@gameformation2100 not a weakness to be feminine at all, but if you're going to make a movie about strong women, make them look strong. to me it's about representation: for a long time, hollywood has been trying to sell people the idea of "strong fierce independent woman who can kick SERIOUS ass" while ignoring that any woman who could realistically do these things would not look like scarlett johansson or gal gadot. if they just said "listen we're giving you a movie where hot girl looks hot and kicks butt like john wick for men like Real Engine to enjoy", i wouldn't even be mad at it. but so many movies/directors now push this agenda of female empowerment and how strong women are hot and badass, while their strong and badass leads look like they couldn't bench press a banana. also, please understand that from your perspective, you seem to have gone into this movie looking for a hot girl to ogle, so you feel satisfied. from my perspective, i went in looking for a strong female role model (as advertised) that looked like me, and found it sorely lacking.
@gameformation21004 жыл бұрын
@@kristallization Well, your argument makes sense. I don't think it is necessary for Scarlett Johansson to get buff for the role of black widow because she's not supposed to be strong. Her fighting style is based on agility rather than strength. But, you're right, it makes sense to make Wonder Woman and the Amazons buff. I personally didn't think that Gal Gadot looked weak or anything, but I can understand if you think that her appearance wasn't coherent with her character. I just wouldn't want movies to give women an idea that they have to start emulating men to be strong when being a female is clearly a virtue in it's own right. Also, "I went to this movie to ogle hot girls"? You seem to be implying that I am some simple minded pervert. It's true that I, like any straight man, enjoy looking at attractive women, but I never go to movies for ogling girls. Neither do I stare at them in an inappropriate manner. I went into this movie because I like superhero movies and I like DC and Marvel. And because I was interested in the movie as a whole.
