A small observation. I've noticed you overlooking Rumble in some recent drafts, especially in spots where you are speculating on Breach/LED combo. It's comparable, and in some spots superior to Brain Freeze (especially since it helps dig for the Breach too). I'm not sure you've been wrong not to pick it, but it wasn't even a card you were mentioning in spots where it at least merited serious consideration, and potentially could've had a transformative effect on some decks. The card is really really good, and it seems like it's coming around the table a lot in your team drafts lately.

I feel like stern scolding and other 1 mana interaction is being pretty undervalued. Obviously he values sword, path etc properly, but i think with so many games starting mox 2 drop into 3 drop and with so many 2/3 drops being scoldable... It's one of the few picks that can save you from an instant loss. Through play, he has been saved by oust multiple times, so i think he realizes he's undervaluing it. The black 1 cmc removal is nuts too, especially against initiative and monarch, and he got absolutely owned by exactly that yesterday. His "curves" are almost always a mountain of 2 drops, which is obviously significantly worse than having a turn 1 play or pairing a turn 3 2 drop with a 1 drop if turn 1 was a tapped land. I simply fail to understand how a power max cube doesn't encourage having lots of 1 drops. How many games does he lose with 6 cards in hand? How many games are over or effectively over on turn 3-4-5? How often is stern scolding effectively time walk when you scold their mana dork, Magda, ragavan, malcolm etc etc By no means am i asserting these are good enough to pick 1-4, but after that? They should at a minimum be considered and it feels like speculating on a combo piece or taking a generic value card is significantly worse than having the stone cold nuts in some percentage of your games.
@Marksmaan15 күн бұрын
Scolding is good in blue decks because it can stop early creatures. But its worse than removal most of the time. Its too narrow to be anything more than a sideboard card that's borderline main deck. Which is still good. Obviously Thoughtseize, Spell Pierce, Swords, Lightning Bolt and the similar cards are awesome. Cut Down, Fatal Push, Pick Your Poison and Scolding are the next tier down.
@jakelink148215 күн бұрын
@Marksmaan I'm inclined to agree with most of what you said and I think it's probably spot on for his usual cube. I think the addition of initiative and monarch creatures makes it necessary to be playing to the board in some way early. On top of that, fast mana and therefore dorks are even better when the combos are "power maxxed". The last iteration of his cube was also heavily boros favored and some of those deck building habits have clearly bled into this cube and probably for good reason. All of those reasons and more are why you're seeing a lot more early scary creatures, which makes the card far less narrow than usual. Just look at his last video, I'm fairly certain he boarded in stern scolding every single match. It's not just stern scolding though, his decks just lack 1 drops in a fast mana cube. That simply can't be right. Cards like Dak and other 3+ mana value pieces are inherently much worse when the games end faster. He treats dak like an auto include if the mana base allows it, but stealing their mox/mana vault/crypt etc is worthless if they've already tripled your mana by turn 3 and then you're going to waste 3 more snatching it? No chance that's better than 1 mana anything.
@Marksmaan15 күн бұрын
@@jakelink1482 Dack's main reason for being in the deck is to churn through the deck, find combo pieces and discard for reanimation. Stealing artifacts is only a bonus. What other 1 drops would you have taken in this draft and over what?

@LucianDevine15 күн бұрын
@@andrewstephan7700 I think he was trying to make a play that wasn't straight up dead to a counterspell, but let's be honest, with 15 cards in hand, there's prolly a counter or bounce in there somewhere. Fable likely resolved, because Opp didn't care about it. Sneak likely wouldn't have.
@andrewstephan770015 күн бұрын
@@LucianDevine still though, if you're dead to it, might as well run it out. Also, a different counter might not have allowed him to cast subtlety killing lsv basically on the spot
@LucianDevine15 күн бұрын
@@andrewstephan7700 Which would be true if Creeping Tar Pit didn't give his Opp 8 points of unblockable damage. LSV was only winning the race until Tar Pit came down. If he taps out for Sneak+Primus, he's dead to a counter or bounce, because he doesn't have Talon Gates up. If he leaves up Talon Gates, he can't go for lethal. So it's kind of a this or that situation. A LOT of cards can kill him, regardless of which line he goes for. It's just a calculated risk either way.

I think at 50:37, the line was to still flash in Griselbrand and Karakas it instead, because they had to sack the dress down before Torsten would be sacrificed. This way you do an extra 7 damage and get 7 1/1s at the cost of discarding Torsten.
