Totally agree with William. There is a way to dress properly without loading up with fabrics. Air temperature in the southern states can reach 43 C in the summer, and I don't see people running around town topless. Most shops here forbid customers from shopping topless or shoeless.

William is absolutely right! Imagine going to Ritz Carlton and seeing the waiters there in shorts and a T-shirt. How would you feel even if the service was EXACTLY the SAME? The attire is very important and tells who you are to a stranger. Casual wear is good for casual purposes like going for a walk or something like that. But when you want people to take you seriously, an appropriate attire is warranted.

I am from Malta. 1 - if it's hot, it's hot EVERYWHERE 2 - though it is mostly sunny its unfair to say that we're "used to it" since it's always different, depending on the humidity (which we have up to 85% sometimes) if there is a breeze etc. We feel hot and sweaty too! It is a wonderful free world and yes everyone should be free to please themselves, however there is a time and place for everything. Thumbs up for Mr. Hanson.

British people really surprise me sometimes, in different ways... I live in Kaliningrad, so, because of the Baltic sea, the climat here is similar to that in the UK (may be a bit more continental, with colder winter and warmer summer, and very humid) and we're not used to high temeratures too. But even at 35 degrees Celsius (95 Fahrenheit) couple of years ago I haven't seen anyone with bare chest or in a bikini top on the streets, let alone in a supermarket or in a bank (bank sounds particulary shocking to me). William is right, we have beaches, backyards and parks for such things, next step (IMO) would be going to the toilet in the bush or under the tree...it's all natural and we shouldn't be ashamed of ourselves, right? :)

If it's hot and you think you will sweat, stripping off is not the solution. You are still going to sweat and it will drip all over the place. It's so unhygienic and inconsiderate. Have shower, apply deodorant and wear light clothes and have spare top just in case you get uncomfortable. That is waking around in the streets, supermarkets, etc. I'm not talking about holiday resort at the beach!

I agree with William. You dress appropriately for the situation you are in!

William kept his cool! Bra is an undergarment!! Bikini is a garment meant for the POOL OR BEACH NOT THE SHOP! Disguising behaviour. I am with William 100%

The lady in the orange dress really needs to to do some reading up on the subject of proper clothing in hot weather before she makes anymore of those dumb comments about stripping off being liberating and so on. People living in warmer sunny climates will NEVER bare their skin, let alone "strip off" even in extreme heat, because they know how dangerous exposure to sunlight is. Instead, they tend to sport spacious, flowy, breathing garments made of natural materials, such as linen, cotton and silk. And those garments as a rule cover as much of their bodies as possible - again, not only for the sake of decency but first and foremost as a protection from the sun. William did touch on that in the beginning, but the conversation got entirely hijacked by the idiot sitting next to him.

I Agree with William!! Since when do you feel liberated when you stripped off? That was a rubbish comment indeed. Liberation is from within!

It's a matter of common sense, isn't it? There are inappropriate places to flash the flesh, don't you think? I'm with William. :-)

I think it all comes down to self awareness and attention to environment. Bikini=pool and beach, office=blouse and slacks/skirt, grocery=t shirt and jeans, church=dress or slacks, shopping= casual top and shorts, evening dinner out=blouse and pants or dress, etc....Just aware of environment and I believe it shows respect for the people around you as well as yourself to take this into account
