Flute can be a very loud instrument if played right. And piccolo can be heard through an entire band. Plus you're hearing the piccolo and not the flutes so much

Yeah i agree with super and some brass players have alot of lung capacity, i play the trombone so i dont know how much air is used for the susaphone but i have a lot of lung capacity that is much larger than the other trombones
