they put the rubber on the wrong side, when you lay decking you want the crown up so the wood doesn't cup

I would go one step further and oil treat my bottom side and all edges before reinstalling the new deck. I like the product looks like good wood but I personally would definitely want that bullet proof seal. Thanks for the info

Used engine oil works great for sealing wood trailer decks and it’s free. Apply sparingly so it totally soaks in and doesn’t make a mess When laying new deck always allow room for swelling when the wood gets wet

How is the wood pressure treated? most of the products used in pressure treating will corrode steel.

I don't know the answer to that, you would have to go to the Blackwood company and find out. I did use coated screws so I am not worried about those rusting.

Why not just spray your boards down with Raptor Liner if you want a non skid surface. Also would seal them from rot if you coat all surfaces.

Are you supposed to use new decking screws when you replace the boards? Are you supposed to use the existing holes in the trailer metal when installing the new boards? If so, I am having trouble lining up the boards holes that I drilled to the existing holes in the trailer. I suppose the solution is to use new self tapping screws to install the new decking. Is this correct?
@FlashPerformance3 жыл бұрын
Always use new hardware when replacing the deck boards. Most trailers are built with self taping screws. When removing the old deck most of them will break coming out. I cleaned up all the broken screws then pre drilled the boards and holes then used new self taping screws for wood and metal outdoors. Don't try to use the same holes it is not worth all the extra work.
@bigdbassn44893 жыл бұрын
@@FlashPerformance Thank you so much for the information. Do you have a self tapping screw that you would recommend using? Thanks!

A helpful hint... Use brown copper napthanate on the deck every 2-3 years and you won't replace for decades!!.. my trailer is 21 years old and floor boards are still going strong...good preservative....
@nickharris83043 жыл бұрын
You could have taken a circular saw across the end of the boards and just pried the board ends out of that lip.... Why cut and weld if you don't need to. And they definitely put the runner on the wrong side. Those boards are gonna cup bad. And boards don't swell length ways they swell width ways. Damn sparkys don't understand how wood works lol. Very cool product though. And the trailer looks badass

Industrial wood technology offers multiple different versions and price points I would recommend contacting them at www.industrialwoodtechnology.com/blackwood to get pricing. I gave them the size of my trailer deck and they gave me options.

@@FlashPerformance he asked a simple question, should be a simple reply. the reality is you and the company your shilling for dont want to tell people how much it is because its damn expensive, and they want an opportunity to do the salesman thing before the customer is aware of how much it will cost and says "no way". they have different grades huh? ok how about a dollar amount per foot or per board for each grade then. why not? caus its so expensive they don't want you to know.
@FlashPerformance3 жыл бұрын
@@shonuffisthemaster Price is never a simple question to answer, epically on wood products. If I told him how much I paid for the product back in June of 2020 do you think it would be exactly the same price? Not sure if you know this but the price of lumber has sky rocked in the past 8 months. If I told him I paid X and now it is X+20% keyboard hero's like you would jump all over that for me lying to people. You don't like the price, that is ok. I made the decision that trailer decking is less expensive the sliding a car of the edge of the trailer deck and having to do the body work.

@@FlashPerformance I get what you are saying but I have to agree that companies that cant give you a straight simple answer on pricing is just ridiculous. At least a ball park. I work for a company that sells HUGE fire suppression systems. I can still give you a ball park answer on how much a part or system MIGHT cost... but when you have a product that is sold in board feet...seems like an easy answer for the company to list on the website...the hardwood store I buy lumber from seems to be able to do it and they sell all sorts of species in all sorts of thicknesses, etc...and they change it on the website when the price changes...not that hard really.

The biggest part I see with that product is they put the rubber product on the grain cupped side of the board. It will eventually hold water and speed up rot.
@FlashPerformance2 жыл бұрын
The rubber is not just laid into the grove on the board, it is press molded into the board, so there isn't a gap on the edges for water to set in. On my project, I have not seen any issues with this.
@mdv20432 жыл бұрын
@FlashPerformance you will eventually. Any water / liquid that hits that wood will be absorbed eventually. Just like on a sealed wooden deck. Sealant will Crack or become penitrable over time. When ever any kind of dementional lumber is used any where out side in elements the cup of the grain on the board should be facing down not up.
@KHtally2 жыл бұрын
Never mount boards with the grain edges facing up or cupped. It collects the moisture and holds it.

You could have just cut the wood to get it out from under the metal, and then cut the new boards a little shorter and slide them under each end about an inch or two
