I’ve sprayed sulphur/water on hoyas with flat mates with 100% success rate. Spread some powder in top of soil too. Weigh the cans/bottles to ensure you are buying a container that hasn’t been shorted. There is a lot of that going around “shrinkflation”. Looking forward to your planned “fun” video next week. Good luck at eradicating those pests!

I attached my usb microscope to a cheap mic stand. Makes it infinitely easier to use. Can zoom in much more to get clear, great pictures.

Great video Drea, although it sucks to be dealing with pests. Unfortunately, this is the reality of plant care. Your White Fusion is absolutely beautiful🪴

I’m not going to lie, sometimes plant pests make me contemplate quitting plants

That is how containers always are this day and time. Half empty. I am having minor problems with mealy bugs but they are under control. I hate them too.

Am I delusional or just blind to pests but I have enjoyed houseplants for 65 years and only once that I recognized had pests and that was a large plant that my neighbor gave me. She had it on her patio and I brought it into my house. It had Scale. I sprayed it once, didn’t see any improvement so it went to the dumpster. I vowed long ago that if a plant got infested or sick it was gone. I don’t have the patience to nurse it along. I live in the southwest desert in a tiny house, own 30 houseplants that I enjoy I know everyone says that if you have plants you will have pests. What gives with me? If they get sick they either heal themselves (which has happened) or they are out. Donna

I’ve only had fungus gnats inside. I did have what I think is spider mites on a few outside plants (morning glory and potato vines) and I just tossed those. I count myself lucky.

I got a container of sulphur several years months ago, just in case. Mine was less than half full as well. I guess some of that could be due to settling. My variegated Hoya Carnosa Compacta hasn’t been putting out much new growth for a long time and I know that can be a sign of flat mites. This video made me decide to mix a little with water and go ahead and spray it and some of my other plants.

Would this sulphur work on all pests?
@AlohaPlantLife2 ай бұрын
Not 100% certain on that. However, I suspect it partially works by drying out the pests, so I imagine it would likely have at least some partial effect on any soft bodied pests.

I felt like crying for you.Pests are so frustrating on top of all the other care routine that goes with having lots of house plants. I’m always battling with mealy bugs,they keep re-appearing after treatment. GRRRR!! Hope your treatment works well. 💚💚🪴🌿🪳🪳🪦

Mealies are still the least annoying in my personal experience (though perhaps the ones I’m most grossed out by). These flat mites are the worst though. You can have a major infestation before ever seeing any signs that there’s an issue.

Hi there I’m wondering if flat mites are the same as scale or are they two different things

Two different things

I'm dealing with the now. I'm using beneficials and plan to do a second round. I'm hoping I can avoid sulfur but I know it's effective.

What about neem oil treatment ? Does that work as good or better than sulphur?
@SandraG-vgmt8 күн бұрын
I'm looking at getting neem too, I've 1 cactus that's grown great until about 3mths ago. I tried natural methods like detergent, sanitiser diluted & a toothbrush to remove 1 stubborn fungi knob. It was going good but I noticed it needed a bit of help so Neem it is. Good luck & enjoy your plants. 👍💚

Have you tried Malathion?
@msscamp1003 ай бұрын
She does not want to mess with Malathion - especially indoors. That stuff is nasty! We used to use it outdoors during wheat harvest, and even then it was dangerous.

I also had problems with flat mites and I purchase this product. When I read the back panel I was a little worried so I called the Bonide Company and I spoke with customer service and asked if this could be used indoors and he said it is not for indoor use because it is harmful to your health. I did not use it. Im letting you know for information. Hope this helps

Hence the mask and gloves which honestly people should probably use even when using it outside.
