I am so glad flats and kitten heels are in style! Flats were all the rage in the 1960s and had a resurgance in the '80s. I got married in '78 and my sister in '81, and we and our attendentsi all wore kitten-heeled slingbacks. So cute. For me, it's a feminist issue too. Women deserve comfy low heeled shoes. Im an outdoorsy type and ive never been into high heels.

I love my Mary Janes from Clarks. The ones I now use for gardening have 1 strap and the newer ones I wear out and about have elastic criss cross straps. A nice little touch of difference. They are so comfortable, yet stylish too. My doctor said I needed to have Brooks walking shoes, so I got them, but find my Mary Janes just as supportive and comfortable.

I love “almond-toes” in footwear, they can be as comfy as round toes for those of us with wider toes, but they are often difficult to find. I definitely prefer a squarish-toe shape over a really rounded one, but sometimes will compromise on that if the footwear is otherwise perfect, as in a pair of taupe suede boots I just got. I think a squared-off, or slightly tapered, shape would be a more stylish, but I will still enjoy them. I’m discovering that many of my ankle-boots have such low shafts that thet don’t look good with shorter, straight trousers. They were designed for the days when we wore skinnies that covered the ankles and even bunched up there.

Here in the US we call those "derbies" "oxfords" -- not sure why. Possibly because of the British? I remember as a young dancer, we actually had a very minimalist version we referred to as jazz oxfords. But these oxfords are much more supportive and you can find them in many colors, even in two -tone -- what we called wing tips!

I find it very difficult to wear heels now and so ballet flats have become my go-to for most occasions but I also have recently bought some sneakers which are white with pale metallic trim from Hotter and they go very well with trousers or jeans and in summer I will also pair them with informal floaty dresses.

For years I have had ballet and loafers in my closet that I wear. I also have a great many Converse and Keds sneakers that I treasure. All of these are comfortable. I have oxfords but I have always worn them in the fall and winter; I never considered wearing them in the spring much less summer. I just might look for white, cream and/or light blue oxfords for spring and summer. Love the video. Marie-Anne, you look a little bit like my mother. She was Parisian and Basque.

Marie-Anne, so far I have not had a chance to shop for Mary Jane flat in a neutral color- I love Mary Janes, ( had comfortable, lovely soft Capazios my senior year high school) - so will look on line...now as we have warmer weather I'm wearing my ballet flats in red and also black as I did Friday ...thank you for the FUN UPDATES! In Wyoming our selection is very limited as so many stores closed and I am still paying for my expensive hearing aids ( I have 80% loss ,approximately, in both ears). So at this point I am collecting ideas and look forward to shopping in the future.

To be able to wear the ballet flats without pain, I buy them one size larger than my usual size. Then, I put a thin gel insole and a small gel wedge under the heel. If they come off the foot, I put some elastic bands on them (they look like they were Mary Jane) In case that were usefull for someone.

As someone who channels her inner Katharine Hepburn & lives only in classic style pants ( dressy / khaki / jeans ) & yoga pants - but the latter only for at home wear , of course 😅 , I welcome new ideas . Mary Janes are very comfortable in every heel height, thanks to the strap, which prevents your toes working to keep the shoe on your heel. I have many of them, as well as derbys.

Love these and all your videos. I am using them to lose "the frumps" and get more confidence looking stylish in a world where looking "pulled together" as it used to be called is something rare. Marie-Anne, I would love a video on teaming bright shoes with belts and or bag. For instance, in one video you team olive or khaki pants with pink shoes. Loved the look. But then what kind of bag or belt would go with that? I suspect that the answer isn't pink and more pink. So that's something I could use help with - before I buy a pair of lovely pink or bright green shoes.

You look so elegant with your pretty silk scarf! I learned this French styling detail from my beautiful, incredibly stylish and elegant French colleagues in my twenties, and have loved wearing them ever since (40 years or more, “trending” or not, they’re never “out-of-style”). I love what silk scarves add to my simple, solid-color dresses or other outfits: color, pattern, softness, luxury, elegance and femininity! In other words, everything I love in my outfits! They are also essential for wearing with my wool or cashmere sweaters, even the ones blended with organic cotton. My neck skin is so hyper-sensitive that even the finest “woolies” itch there, but not with a silk scarf around the neck to block those warm, but scratchy fibers. My winter go-to outfit: wool or cashmere dress, or skirt and sweater set, with a silk scarf and warm tights. For the turtleneck styles, I wear them a la MarieAnne, half-tucked under the collar. (I wear these fabrics over something like silk long john tops, to add warmth and keep them cleaner, as well as stop the itching. If it’s really cold outside I wear the LJ pants, under tall boots, too).

Yes! This has given me quite a bit of encouragement, as my "problem" collection already includes Mary Janes, loafers, and sneakers. The only ones I probably won't be able to wear will be the "Oxford" style because I have trouble bending to tie any shoes. But I do have a pair of rather masculine looking shoes with monk straps. I'll be on the lookout for a pair of ballet flats with little heels, for sure. I'm feeling motivated, yes I am!

I recently ordered a pair of nude coloured Day Glove shoes from Everlane - made of soft leather that they claim will mold to one's foot. I've worn them a couple of times and find them very comfortable and quite stylish. You look very chic with your scarf. I signed up to watch the scarf video collab you did with Diana Bishop, but had to leave after 30 minutes for an appointment and no scarves were shown. Although I have problem feet, I'm pleased I can still wear ballet flats. I love Mary Janes. I have several pairs of Oxfords. I have black, navy, pale grey and pink. I can hardly walk in heels now that I'm 72 but I'm enjoying my flats. I refuse to act and dress like and old lady!! Thanks for the video ❤

My favorites (own more than 1 pair) are loafers. I love all options shown and most are already in my collections, aside from the Derby shoes, but love how they look and will look into getting a pair.
