Oh no you don't. That's how cults suck people in. They're all nice and harmless getting you to trust them, then when you let your guard down, all of a sudden they're using their guilt and fear tactics to make you feel not worthy of heaven and you need someone to help you avoid a mythical lake of fire for the really horrible person you are without salvation. Then they pressure you to cut all the evil non-believers out of your life, especially your family so no one can let you know you are part of a mind-control cult. I know, it happened to many of my family members, they all say insane things when I'm around them. Religion is the great cancer of humanity.

Your focus (and many of the other comments) is on her and her talent…at what point in this cover did you worship our Lord? At what point did you think anything else but God has blessed them with incredible voices? Or, as I thought, “I wish I could sing like that”. How did this song point you to God or the Gospel of Christ? Or were you simply entertained as you would’ve been outside this church? You were filled with the same feelings you always feel when you hear that song…outside of this church. I agree that these folks are incredible entertainers, but my purpose is to worship God; to sing His praises, and to advance the Gospel….also the purpose of our worship services. I am wowed by the talent of the performers at Flatiron; it feels like every other concert I’ve been to…outside of church, for the purposes of my entertainment. Is this not what “itching ears want to hear” the Bible speaks of in 2 Timothy 4? There are SO many contemporary Christian worship songs written for the purpose of worshiping our Lord that these singers would absolutely crush that fulfill the purpose of pointing us to Him. Why are we not separating ourselves from the world? Is it not the purpose of these particular songs to do what it did with most commenters on here…leave us in awe of the performers and not our Savior? Listen I was, as you, entertained by this performance, but I did not once think of God throughout except to say the performers were blessed with incredible talent by Him…that’s it. Not a message of the incredible grace, mercy, love and salvation granted by God to those who would believe in His son Jesus Christ. What are we telling the world…come in here, you’ll be comfortable here because you’ll hear what you hear out there, we embrace what is out there too. JMHO Sorry this was so long.

If anyone from Flatirons Community Church's worship team sees this, please ignore the naysayers and people who would tear you down. The Devil chooses to attack those that have positive, kingdom impacting ministries. Nobody knows what's inside anyone's hearts, be it a member of the church, an attender, or a worship leader or pastor. I've lead worship at the largest church in Omaha, NE for the past 8 years. We have a traditional Choir/Orchestra and also two different services with praise bands, similar to Flatirons. Just a few weeks ago, to kick off a series titled "30 days to live" our band covered Tim McGraw's "Live like you were dying" song. It fit really well with the series. We are certainly a very "real" church to over 3,400 weekly attenders. And Josh Ramirez, please be careful how you exhort others. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but tearing down is typically counterproductive. Peace and Blessings!

Not sure if those of you condemning this Church, the very Bride of Christ, are open to hearing the truth of Scripture regarding the issue, but I figured I'd share just in case your heart is ready. 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 says: “Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.”
@joshpetermann8 жыл бұрын
+Dylan Maxwell Because? Not sure if you misinterpreted my comment, but I'm simply defending the Church from those who are condemning them for playing a secular song as an opening song when people are walking in. Didn't mean to step on any toes, so if I did I apologize.
@collick1008 жыл бұрын
+Josh Petermann Hi there young Josh. Could I strongly recommend you do an exegesis or at least some theological research on 1 Corinthians 9:19 -23. Unfortunately you have misinterpreted Paul and used his counsel entirely out of context. We cannot use this or any other scripture to justify bringing "the world" into the church. As you grow and mature in your walk with Christ you will understand that secular compromise has no place in building the Kingdom of God. If you think Paul was interested in worldly standards could I suggest you read Galatians 6:14. We are in the last days and I'd suggest that Flatirons Community Church probably fits right into the Laodicean model (Revelation 3.14). Be wise and watchful Josh. Guard your heart and do your best to stay on the narrow road that leads to the narrow gate. Bless you.
