This is exactly the same thing that happened to me. I was looking for a rental in Bangalore in June'23 on magicbricks. I connected with 2 acammers, both posed as owners working in some government offices at very high positions. Both asked to pay Rs.500 as visiting charges. But I felt something was fishy because no society charges just to see a flat for rental. Hence, I didn't proceed with them and blocked their numbers.

Bro, it is simply a marketing technique to get some leads. Similar strategies applied by swiggy, zomato, and other online apps, which says 70% off, 60% off, but ultimately, if you buy even for 1000 rupees, you max off will be 50 - 100 rupees only. But no one questions that

Yes.. magicbricks in no.1 in this. Will show unrealistic property at unrealistic price.. and then they will ask you to pay for subscription to get the number of the owner... And after we take the subscription and call that property owner it turns out fake.. And that way ur subscription fees gets wasted.. Always prefer 99acre as they are much ethical compare to magicbricks or nobroker

Same modus operandi. This happened to one of my colleagues, too. She paid 2000 bucks to see the property upfront. Pretty sure this is the same group of scammers operating in Delhi NCR.

Sir, same happened with me in Hyderabad too, but I was able to realize that the agents were scamsters as the mentioned property didn't even exist on the pinned location as per Google maps.

Add to that, there is no receipt for the brokerage. House owners dont give receipt for rent paid either, and deduct hefty amounts in the name of painting, repair etc. despite staying for only few months, and a paltry sum is refunded from the advance paid. I have also heard that brokersge is charged again if you wish to extend your stay on the rented property.

This type of advance was asked a few months ago when i was looking to rent an apartment. I refused to pay and told him come to the location and i will pay you 3000 to see the flat. He hung up 😂 this was in Hyderabad Hi tech city area. Thank you for enlightening us

I think there is need of insurance product for these rental property sites . So that if fraud happend to the registered user claim can be paid to the user .

I'm well aware of these scams and didn't share any details/money with them. But I did report this to 99acres. I hope no one gets scammed and these scammers get caught soon. In my case No Broker said that you have chosen house from their side so shifting Movers and packer services charged on discount, they charged less Rs 10,000/_ compaired to others. I booked transfer Rs5000/_in advance .They done but with low grade unexperienced person and then increased amount to Rs 5000 on final by informed me truck/ van is not available, i stuck by giving advance Rs5000. At last after reminder / complaint they had not given Invoice or receipt. Which is urgent for me to claim form my office. I lost to claim whole money.

This happened with me when I was looking fir a rented flat for my daughter. I did pay 2000 to the scamsters, for issuing a visitor card from the society. The complex was supposed to be a very posh one so I believed and paid. But it didn't end there, they asked fir another 2500 for some other stupid booking fee. It was sounding fishy so I declined. I then checked up if there was actually such property available. This is where we want to fund a house sitting on our Butts, and they take advantage of that. Also the photos they show on the website look like an interior designer has designed the flat

New- Scam-- - A person posing as an army officer contacts the owner, expresses interest in the property, and asks to pre-pay the deposit or advance without even seeing the property first. They say there is process in army you need to add army bank account number in phone by then request for payment. but they make you pay money form your account to them by manipulating payment mothod

Exact thing has happened to us too. We had listed our property online for rent. Some one calls us saying he's from CISF. He sends Adhar Card and PAN when we asked which was clear that it was edited. Later he continues with same PhonePe request tactic to pay the advance not even looking at the property. We cut the call by threatening them of police complaint.

Exactly the same thing happened with me and my friend also 8 months back in Hyderabad. Luckily we were at the property location and called him. And other 4 short listed was also similar. It's such a clear and Intentional cheating, why can't police catch them I don't understand.

One guy tried this with me. He showed a plot and I liked it and froze the deal. Later I got to know that asking price is higher than the market rate. I didn't get into any agreement or anything of that sort. I made another offer that is closer to the market rate which obviously owner declined. I pulled out of the deal and owner didn't care much. The agent who showed me the plot started bugging me to give Rs. 2000 for nothing. I tried making him understand but he wouldn't budge. Finally I asked his address so I can send him legal notice for illegally demanding money from me. He stopped pestering me.. Be your own protector and never leave your guard down when you're in Indian real estate market

Dicto same conversation I had.i found a very good house at 12500 in dlf phase 2 Gurgaon on 99 acres app. N I was also shocked how can someone sell house at low price. N by his voice he didn't sound like old man but called me beta beta. N was forcing me to pay. Thnk god I didn't pay anyone till date coz m aware of it.
