Flatten your warped, cockled/ buckled watercolour paper using tape. I love this method as I do not need to worry about finding books or clamps. You can flatten multiple paintings at once and it is perfect for mixed media since there is nothing placed on top.

Thank you, thank you, thank you ... this was the best method I've tried (after trying out other ideas from other artists), and I have saved my painting without too much effort ... I'm off to the framer now! :)

That is is great to hear. I really love this method too. Actually I find it quite relaxing even though its slightly more work than spraying and putting under a board. Also easier to flatten multiple paintings at one in my opinion. Hope the framers goes well. Always an exciting moment! Thank you for your feedback 😊

This is such a valuable tip, thank you for taking the time to post it. The method is very straightforward, and does not mean anything has to be on top. I am going to assume that the paper looks just as flat the next day, is that correct? You have a new subscriber from Scotland. The first video I watched was the two paint sketches. I liked both but agreed with you that the second was the best representation of the colours around our hills and mountains, especially when water is present. 👩🏻‍🎨🖌️🎨

Thank you! Yes, the paper remains flat. I think occasionally I have been impatient and removed the tape too soon and then it can buckle a little bit again so I always try to leave it a good 12 hours. I am very happy to have a subscriber from Scotland! I studied in Glasgow and my sister lives in The Highlands! Thank you and I am glad you have enjoyed some of the videos. 😊

Thank you for your videos! What about this method for bigger formats? I'm struggling with buckling, even while I'm painting, it's accumulates paint where I don't want it to. 😢

I have done this with big paintings too - probably about 14” x 16” but I think it would work with bigger. As long as you can reach to stretch the corners etc!. Have you tried to stretch the paper before you paint? I do not have a video showing this but there are probably lots on YT. Another option is to use a block of paper (where the sides are gummed down). But this is not as effective as stretching. Or.. a thicker piece of paper. But its more expensive! Anyway, a long list. Have you ever tried any of these?

@@annamabellaedgley Thank you!! yes I have used Arches before. I find it works so well for wet in wet, loose abstract. The flow of pigment is so lovely. I will try this method for flattening!

Hello! Yes, I use it ALOT. I have tried the rough texture too but at the moment find the pigment sinks in too much. But planning on experimenting with that one more!
