Ren knew Joe was on the bridge, and was running there and trying Joe's phone along the way. He kept getting a busy signal indicating Joe was alive and still talking to a loved one. Then, two minutes before reaching the bridge, the response changed from a busy signal to an out of service message. Ren was that close to reaching his childhood friend. They never found Joe's body due to the currents. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution, a non-profit group, searched for two days for Joe. Ren just returned home from Canada where he is receiving treatments for his illness, and donated £21000 from the proceeds of this song to the RNLI.

Ren got his first guitar at 10, and took it everywhere and wouldn't stop playing. Started making and selling beats at 12. Hard to sell in a small town in Wales, so he started rapping. And so it goes... When I see his face light up - which is common when he's doing a collab with someone, while he's listening to them - it's easy to see that music feeds his soul. It's more than a crowd and a successful career to him. It's clearly life itself. You can't manufacture that kind of love.

Or as he so beautifully wrote one day before "for joe" came out: "It made me really realise I guess what I've always known. Music is far more than music. It's a channel of communication for the things that are impossible to say. It's a bridge between the living and the dead. It's a way to stay immortal. It's a way to resurrect the dead. It's a universal language. It cuts down barriers of the parts of you which are encapsulated in steel cast iron. It allows frozen rivers to thaw and become un-stagnant. I owe myself, my life, everything I am to music. Music is the closest thing to god I know. I am so grateful to be doing what I do and to tap into this mystic force. My life, my energy, myself, I eternally devote to it."
@joannewilson2395 Жыл бұрын
I agree, his face when he collaborates with Chinchilla or Sam when their talent flies is a sight to see. Another time is on Livestream when he's playing with Liv Sangster. Music is his unique way of expressing all the depths of his soul and when others touch that form of expression he knows pure joy.

I love reading the comments and learning more, I just frame across Ren about a week ago. He’s almost all I’ve listened to since then. Your story reminds me of when I watch Pentatonix and Scott is listening to Mitch sing (their side project called Superfruit it’s most evident) and you c an tell Scott is still amazed by Mitch’s voice despite being friends for almost 2 decades

Once in a generation you get an artist like Ren. People like him need to be cherished and not destroyed by the music industry like so many are. Ren is paving the way for many independent artist and he is giving people courage and inspiration. But most importantly he is bringing people together and that is sorely needed nowadays.

On June 10th, 1995 I was 5 years old. My little brother was 21 months old, EXACTLY on that day. He was laying on the couch and I was playing with him, kissing and blowing on his stomach. Some people call it raspberries. He was laughing. I went into the kitchen for a very brief time. When I came back his face was a horrible purple/blue color and he wasn't moving. Then my memory goes blank. The next thing I remember is sitting in my grandma's car with my sister right behind the ambulance. A female paramedic ran out of the house, holding my brother tight in her arms as if he were her own child. That was the last time I saw him alive. It was determined that he was born with some condition that had never been diagnosed. So now it's been 28 years and I still blame myself. What if I hadn't been making him laugh so much? What if I hadn't left the room? Now as a father I can't imagine losing my 2 daughters. I'm reminded of that moment every time I give my 6 month old raspberries. As precious as her laughter is, it terrifies me and I stop. It was the same when my 9 year old was a baby. We as humans hold onto guilt forever. People grieve in different ways. I find acceptance in knowing that, unfortunately, everyone passes away. But that doesn't make it hurt any less.

But there is something in his DNA to make him so good as well. He nourished that drive with non stop practice. If he didn't have the intelligence he has he would of not been able to absorb all those hard reading books he was flooded with. In turn it made him a top lyrical word smith and they are put in his music.

If you watch the Knox interview Ren intellectually and logically knows there wasn’t anything he could have done that night but emotionally is another thing… the empty cup. But notice there is a bottle of light (lights) to fill the empty cup. The previous produced video was dark and filled with pain and frustration. This starts with that pain but continues with what Joe and all his actions has taught and given Ren. That bottle of light to fill the empty cup. Not only a crafted masterpiece but preformed extremely well with the help from Sam.

We have a 15 year old son-we’ve talked about ending your own life with him before but after I heard this, we sat him down and talked with him again. He is a responsible, dependable, smart student that plays multiple sports who has one of the highest grade averages with so much going for him, but on the flip side pressure can build up and we’ve seen him anxious at times. We actually didn’t even allow him to work this summer so he could enjoy the last few years of high school playing sports, going fishing with his friends, play in an ultimate frisbee league, etc because with weightlifting, baseball practices and games as well as football camps, I wanted to be able to spend some time with him getting back to the bike rides we used to always go in the summer before he got so busy. I got off topic but after watching this reaction, I may have our son watch this as well and not just the video

I think the challenge is to be true to yourself. When it comes to art...or music. It is so easy to think of what has been done before. Because you find your idols or the tings you like, and you get inspired. And what you create, is coming out of that inspiration and often, we are to scared of what others may think of what you make. And that will destroy your uniqeness (if that is a word?). Do your thing, trust your thing and work hard for it and mabe, just mabe you get noticed. And just dont give a F### about what other people think. Be true to yourself. It will shine through. I dont know, but that is my thoughts on it.
