with all the smart academics and educators that Kenya has, can't we come up with our own home grown Kenyan educational system? Why must we always be given or forced to use an external system, why are things always forced on us. Worst of all, must we always accept what is forced on us by these external forces? Is Kenya independent?

Very rich conversation 👌 8-4-4 original was just great and practical. We need to revert to it, then upgrade it appropriately. I particularly have an issue with the cost in terms of daily requirements that assumes all parents and children can afford to foot all these. Parental involvement is great, but government needs to be aware of various family social challenges. Government also needs to shoulder most of curriculum requirements to ensure equity across the country. After all, access to quality education is a human right in our constitution.

*About the CBC System* Filing the rublic/s for each and every child in class in 35/40 minutes, for 6-10 lessons a day online and you're preparing other lessons for the next day is a recipe for disaster, the teacher will start filling those rublics like a robot and eventually they will not assess the students well...as said earlier several times by some of us who encountered/ went through the 8-4-4 at the initial stage (in the 80's and early 90's), the competency CBC is looking for is in the practical subjects; Art & Craft, Music, Home Science, Carpentry, Woodwork, Metal Work etc There is another form of competency we tend to overlook, the conceptualisation, internalisation and "replay" (mastery of knowledge) of a concept triggered by/through evaluation/assessment/examinations..when one learns all the subjects as chosen or as conceived under 8-4-4, one actually brings out what he/she can specialise in; Sciences, Arts, Practicum which informs the course, profession or trade one will engage in after school ..this also helps learners to work hard and stretch their limits knowledge-wise... children below the age of 18 require knowledge-based curriculum so that they can discern many things in life.. With CBC, some parents or relatives are known to have been assisting the child do the assignments/homework/activities thus making the learners lazy since they know their parents/guardians/relatives will readily assist...other learners get disadvantaged if they do not have 'competent' relatives, or those from poor backgrounds to provide resources required or even those with no relatives to assist them... it's costly to parents too especially with the ever-demanding teachers who ask for resources required almost daily... Me thinks teachers, policy makers and scholars should be involved in rectifying the shortcomings of the 8-4-4 system rather than pushing the CBC system forward... Another thing is the CBA, TPAD & TPD programmes by MOE/TSC that were introduced without participation/consultation by/from teachers... they're meant to waste time, resources and make it cumbersome for teachers to rise up the career ladder, to enslave the teacher and demotivate them...we should revert to old system with a few corrections here and there...

Give Kenyans a theoretical curriculum, they will be like this is making our kids robots, give them a practical curriculum such as CBC, they rubbish it as expensive to implement bla bla bla…people really don’t know what they want.

Further, I would urge Madam Njoya and other educationists to visit MOE Resource Center, Jogoo House. Ask for a concept titled " Career Dynamics in the 21st Century," that was used for architecture of the CBC. You will notice that it was sanctioned by Dr. Matiang, Mercy Karogo then research director at KICD amongst others. The latter conceded that it was a home grown solution to Challenges in the education system. I believe this effort will inevitably clarify the philosophy of CBC as would have been expected.

Scrap this CBC. How will it benefit those schools who learn under a tree. Where CBC works, it's because the government has invested in education with insfrusture, books and teachers and education is mandatory and all children are at a same level. Equal learning facility. Kenya is far from that
